Nicolas Otamendi - 2016/17 performances

Has an incredible ability to play well but still cost us goals. He will play very well for 89 minutes but still cost us a game.So it's not his ability as much as concentration, which can be improved. He's still on an upward curve from the rock bottom that was Chelsea.

Blaming him for the first goal is a bit unfair, Kolarov was the right side of Alli, and just got done by a brilliant cross.

Otamendi will be brilliant, being aggressive and intercepting lots of passes, then make a mistake or be out of position and cost us a goal.

It happens too often, Pep needs to be ruthless and make it clear that's not good enough.

How much has Otamendi won in his career out of interest? Seems to me like a good player who's not quite at the level to win things.

Needs to learn to stay on his feet, there's a time and place for a slide tackle, he's still making rash challenges in bad situtations.

As illustrated at 2-2 when he made the most ridiculous challenge on the touch line, missed and if it wasn't for Sane clearing his mess up, they would have been in again. Add to that his ridiculous Oscar winning performances and he is a player that I find very hard to take to.

There's definitely a fine line and I agree he could improve on his decision making.

However, it's overlooked how many times he wins a tackle, usually by sliding in, and then springs a counter attack.

A great example is our first goal yesterday. A fantastic tackle that shifted momentum and gave KDB the opportunity to play a direct ball over for Sane.

Shhhhhhh! It's easy for you to see, you are his beard.

Those who don't want to like him forget that and the other that ended a chance for them and almost sprun one for us but remember the one he missed that was killed by a correctly covering Sane.

Again, I'll repeat, still easily and by a considerable margin the best defender at City. So I don't know what to say here. Kompany Kolarov and Stones would all be long benched or moved before Otamendi on merit.

He is a level above and beyond any of those 3. But sure, he could get better.
