I guess it's all about opinions
He'll 'ok' when he stops diving in and stays on his feet.
He did it on that training video on the website today, on Aguero, he needs to be told to stop doing that for starters.I wonder if we'll see a marked reduction in the amount of times Otamendi goes to ground; surely Pep wont tolerate that?
Do you think he has only been diving in since playing for us? As I said, we knew exactly what type of defender he was and even shipped out Denayer to accommodate him. He will be here this season and I'm sure pep will improve him
Not at all. iirc Txiki went with Pel to specifically watch him. Tell me where I have inferred Pep was involved. You make it sound like Pep was here when we bought him.

The common denominator in the purchase was Txiki, and when we bought Ota, he would have been aware that Pep would be joining us. Im not suggesting that Ota was a Pep purchase, my point is that Txiki bought Ota knowing the type of defender he is.Sorry, I can't seem to grasp the whole multiple quote thing but.
"I think if Otter spends as much time diving in or on his arse this season he'll be sitting next to Pep on the bench.
Pellegrini tolerated some things that Pep will outlaw immediately."
"What makes you think that. Yes he goes to ground a lot but dont you think we knew how Ota defends, yet still bought him?"
The guy thinks that if he doesn't stay on his feet Pep will bench him.
You responded with the bit that I highlighted.
He's talking about Pep judging him and you're talking about the people that bought him before Pep showed up.
I'm not sure what that has to do with what Pep wants out of a defender.
Badly ?Maybe I'm a little biased as he is probably my favourite player in the whole squad as he plays the game exactly how I do!
Badly ?
Badly ?
The going to ground thing is so over exaggerated.
Going to ground is his way of defending we all know that... He gets skinned going to ground no more than any top defender gets turned inside out while they are still stood on their feet. It just looks a bit worse being on your arse, (he gets up ridiculously quick by the way).
Maybe I'm a little biased as he is probably my favourite player in the whole squad as he plays the game exactly how I do! He's exciting for a centre half!
And it's no good defenders staying on their feet but still get completely skinned, he gets skinned on the ground no more than other top defenders get skinned stood up, just looks worse when he's on his backside that's allHe may get up ridiculously quickly but it's no good when it's 20 yards behind the play.
I agree. Mangala is an incredible physical specimen who can dominate Ibrahimovic, Costa etc For it to work though, you need the footballing intelligence of a Kompany or a prime Demichelis to be the brains of the operation.I love Mangala believe he can be a world class defender, just not in Pep's system.

think i read somewhere that Maldini? Once said if you have to slide in it means you're not doing your job as a defender right. If you stay on your feet, you sometimes get a 2nd chance to save the situation, even if you get skinned the first time. Go to ground & it's over.
Unless you are blocking a shot, it's usually bad technique & something he should work on.

Too simple by half to say stay on your feet,if every defender knows they have to stay on their feet then why do goals still get scored
If the opportunity to win the ball is there then the defender should go for it,Otamendis tackling justifies the way he plays
Wouldn't be surprised if he had said that. Maldini barely tackled - that's how good he was. He didn't need to.think i read somewhere that Maldini? Once said if you have to slide in it means you're not doing your job as a defender right.
