I think it is impossible to overestimate quite how bad Pellegrini was for most, if not all of our defensive players. In the 14/15 season he even managed to make Vinnie look an absolute chump most of the time so it's not surprising that last year, Otamendi coming into a new league and playing under him looked really poor at times. I feel a bit sorry for Mangala, comes in, plays under that berk for two years and then as soon as someone comes in who has a clue, he's gone.
there's no point hiding the fact that last season he got loads wrong while also having some top games.
This season he's started really well.
Why are people arguing about one of our players improving? you lot are odd :)
Have a look at this :No because I didn't say Otamendi is complete fucking shite I said he 'often' was, last season. Which is true. And people trying to rewrite it, as if folks were wrong to mention it, are taking the piss.
Otamendi has played more genuine top quality games for City this season already, than he did in the whole of last season.
He was being arse kissed by fanboys for often routine defending, but also letting players run off him at set pieces for free headers, chucking himself over trying to win free kicks instead of doing his job, rushing out of position leaving gaps behind him for oppo to run into, being bitched in the air by journeyman cfs, outpaced, outhought, & sitiing on his arse when he should be holding players up. The shiteness at times of our other top players like Aguero, Yaya or Silva didn't harm him, it helped him stay under the radar.
He was lauded for any decent games he played, & praised heavily for average ones whilst his constant stream of mistakes were put down to Pellegrini telling him to do stuff or Fernandinho or Yaya not doing his job for him. He was all over the place.
He isn't allowed to be, anymore. If he goes back to that level, he's out the door. So far, he's looked like a real top cb apart from 20 mins v West Ham, where he reverted to last season. On Saturday, he was heroic. Hopefully that will be his futute standard & then he will become one of the best around. His standard last season, was Johnny Evans with a beard.
Have a look at this :

That's how he did compared to other 'top' PL defenders.
You see a player that was 'often' shite, I see a mainstay of a CB during our whole season that managed to perform even though he had to change partners almost every game (which included Demichelis).
Let's just agree to disagree.
I'm not saying he's Fabio Cannavaro, but he wasn't Jonny Evans either. You sound like you have some personal vendetta against him so I don't think I can convince you otherwise. He did went to the ground a lot and maybe that's very despicable to you which leads to your hatred towards him last season, I might understand that. Either way let's just agree to disagree. Some fuckers idea of what they decide is a defensive error leading to a goal & some fucker's idea that every fuck up you get away with that the striker misses, means you are doing a great job, does not wash with me, at all, nor most of the people on here when we get told how great Ferguson's defence with John OShea, or Phil Jones, or Evans, or Smalling at cb was, when they got away with it & kept some clean sheets. We laughed, because we knew there was more to it.
