The fact that his best attribute is 'last gasp tackles' says a lot about how out of position he is in the first place.
Not really. Seeing as last ditch tackles are not his best attributes. You just think they are coz it suits your argument. Tackling, combative mentality, front footedness, willingness to do anything to win (including cheating and diving), ball playing skills, fullback support, interceptions etc. These are some of his really good attributes and more consistent than the last ditch tackles he makes. And for what it's worth by "last ditch tackles' what it means is that if he got beat, they'll score. So even in that category, being good at actually making the last defender tackles, is not a sign of being out of position. People out of position often cannot make any tackles at all, talk less last ditch ones. See Yaya and Kolarov for glowing examples of what it means to be out of position.

Ota might not be every man's cup of tea, but he is a very good player. Of that there is no doubt.

bravo!

He's the best defender we have at the moment. It's a bit unfair to slate the guy for being done by Costa, we may as well write off all the supposed quality defenders that often get mugged by Aguero/Sanchez/Hazard et al if we use that as a benchmark. He does go in for challenges where some other defenders wouldn't, but his interception rate is far higher than any of our other defenders because of this. He also loses possession less than any of our other defenders. There's certainly room for improvement but people can be quick to forget that only last week he provided an assist and produced a man of the match performance at Burnley.

I'm sorry but how on earth can anyone say his front footedness is his greatest strength when it's what makes him a complete liability. He tries to be front footed on the ball but lacks the quality to do anything once he's gotten past a defender and often loses possession. In defence, his front footed approach causes us to concede more goals than the actions of any other player we have. He constantly misjudges his ability to reach a ball, whether it's charging out of position to attempt an interception, or if it's misjudging a slide tackle and being left on his arse.

As for doing anything to win - apparently he'll do anything except compete with a centre forward, because he usually goes to ground and just hopes a foul is called.

His combative mentality translates to "makes hand gestures at referees when he gets booked" and "Has tattoos and a beard"

Your attempts to claim he's a great player were not fooling anyone before the weekend, now, after he gave away 2 goals and tried his best to give one away in the first half too, they are ridiculous.

Just to play devils advocate...is he shit or is he just struggling in Peps system? Especially a back 3?

The latter. I have always said he is not a Pep player. Pep players don't spend the game sliding in. I always thought that Mangala was a better fit than Otto. Not as good on the ball but can follow instructions. It is a fundamental requirement for a Pep player and Otto simply can't do it. Kolarov, a very poor footballer compared to Otto, has done relatively well because he is doing what Pep is asking him to do. It is also why he is getting on the pitch so much.
