Nirvana

Played Nirvana non stop for a year after discovering them. Once I discovered Alice In Chains I listened to them much more. Would?, Down In A Hole, Rooster, these songs will be played in 50 years time.

I can listen to Layne Staley or Kurt Cobain all day every day, but could never choose who I prefer. Both of them are just magical!
It's close I'll agree. Layne's voice sent a shiver down my spine though, remember shedding a tear when I heard of his sad demise.

Alice in Chains/Layne Staley, Mad Season/Temple of the Dog, Anything with Cornell on vocals from that period, Malfunkshun, Mother Love Bone are all on a different planet and far superior to Kurt and Nirvana. And for the record I don't dislike Nirvana.

But hey opinions are like arseholes and thats what makes music so damn good.

Just got AIC unplugged up on Youtube. Late night I guess.

Saw them a couple of times, never that bothered. They'd be a late afternoon festival band now if they'd still been around.

Kurt killling himself gave them an unrealistically high profile since.

Try Alice in Chains Unplugged.

Better band of musicians.

You think Blur's better than Oasis and you think Alice In Chains is better than Nirvana? ffs.
I am right on both.

Oasis is music for the casual music fan.

-- Thu Feb 21, 2013 8:44 am --

Oasis are better than Blur, but Alice in Chains are better than Nirvana.

I've seen a lot of bands over the years, but AIC in 2009 is probably the only time I've seen a band play a perfect set. Great song selection and tight to the point of it almost being like listening to a CD.
The new vocalist is pretty good.

New album out in April.

They've become quite important to me, personally. Kurt died just weeks before I turned 1, but his life & his music has stirred me.

As it's been said, nothing has really come close as such since. Maybe Radiohead for technicality and Oasis for grandeur, but nothing else.

Hi Liam

So are you saying AIC were just better live or are you talking overall? Genuine question as I've never listened to anything by AIC and was never fortunate enough to see Nirvana live :-(

Thanks to KA for the 'bump' to the thread though.
I still love you Kurt ;-) x

They are a very good live band, but I generally prefer AIC. Check out "Them Bones" it's maybe a bit heavier than Nirvana, but still got that grunge sound.

Jar Of Flies/SAP

Without Layne Staley, AIC aren't AIC.

Just sayin'

True but still a very good band.

I hope you also own Mad Season's Above album. If not, get it.
