A couple of observations... I doubt that Etuhu asnd Mills went for fees in excess of £1.3m this close season. But if you can confirm their figures I will concede that point.

Transfermarkt is usually the best source for transfer figures as they do extensive research:

£1.6million for Etuhu: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/dickson-etuhu/transfers/spieler_14011.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/dicks ... 14011.html</a>

£2.2million for Mills: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/matthew-mills/transfers/spieler_25384.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/matth ... 25384.html</a>

£1.3million for Weiss: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/vladimir-weiss/transfers/spieler_92701.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/vladi ... 92701.html</a> (incidentally they rate his market value at £3.1million)

Weiss better than Obertan? Maybe in your opinion, but not in the real world... Newcastle had a choice of signing him or Obertan and they chose Obertan..

We had a choice of signing Vertonghen over Savic and chose Savic. It doesn't make Savic a better player, which he isn't. Obertan has never been impressive for United or Newcastle (where he quickly became a fringe player), Weiss had a good season at Espanyol which made them want to sign him again but they couldn't afford him being a typical Spanish club flirting with bankruptcy. Weiss has a much better future than Obertan and is already a more talented player.

Rumours that Obertan is off again this summer for around £2.5m... so why don't the buying clubs see what you see in Weiss? The reason why we're getting £1.3m for Weiss is because no one is prepared to pay any more than that... unless you know different?

Or maybe the same reason we've sold too many players for below market value, because clubs know how easily we are to play and in this summer's case, how desperate we are to ease the load on our wage bill? Do you also think Caicedo was only worth £880,000, was this prudent business by the club?

Tosic costs a rags £16m initially, and one year later they sold him for half that. I'm not sure where you get the "profit" of £2m figure from.

Tosic cost them £6.1million: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/zoran-tosic/transfers/spieler_46180.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/zoran ... 46180.html</a>

Or £7million: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/manchester-united/7082638/Manchester-United-winger-Zoran-Tosic-joins-Cologne-on-loan.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... -loan.html</a>

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Transfer-news-7m-Manchester-United-flop-Zoran-Tosic-joins-Cologne-on-loan-article302639.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Tr ... 02639.html</a>

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1287305/Manchester-United-reject-Zoran-Tosic-slams-Sir-Alex-Ferguson-securing-CSKA-Moscow.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... oscow.html</a>

No idea where you get £16million from.

And I think Manucho went on a free or at best an "undiclosed".

"Undisclosed", listed as £2.4million here: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/manucho/transfers/spieler_64484.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/manuc ... 64484.html</a>

Like you I get frustarted at our apparent inability to offload for "decent" money, but if clubs don't want to spend that on our players, there's little we can do other than get the best deal.

The right men know how to get the right deal. Even if it's scraping an extra million out of a deal, there are those capable of it - how did Daniel Levy manage to PROFIT on unwanted Pienaar (over £1million more than he paid 18 months ago despite Pienaar not making it at Spurs, despite Pienaar being 30 now, despite Pienaar going to the very same club Spurs bought him from!) and Crouch (£10million for 30yo Peter Crouch!!!).

Adebayor is a case in point. A great season last for Spurs, would be valued circa £15m in "normal" circumstances, and we can't get more than £5m for him. Is that City's fault? And if so, why?

I wouldn't expect a great fee for Adebayor due to his wages and that's why I haven't really mentioned him. But even at a reduced figure that will see him go for peanuts, we're unable to close this deal because Spurs won't push a bit extra into his pocket and expect us to in order to appease the money pig - another blight on our summer's transfer dealings that is holding us back.

The only reason I staunchly argue this is concern that the club is constantly getting shafted, which I believe we are. There are so few transfer deals where you can really say "WOW, what a bargain!" or "Oh my god, we got HOW much for him?"... I've heard the wages we pay being used as an excuse for the latter but have listed examples where wages didn't factor into the deal at all. And by now we should be able to get a premium on players, we're the champions of England, but signs are that it's the same as ever... sell low, buy high.

the way i see our transfer policy, people are aware of our squad, they know the people we sell wont be getting a game,so offer minimal, uniteds player because they play for united cost more,

when we were shite,if we were linked with eg a real madrid squad player we would automatically think we were signing quality, same with united players, they might not be but on their cv it has united on it,so they must have something.

in a few years time as we establish ourselves as a top top club we will be in the same situation.,also the quality players will come for less.

it will take time,no doubts about it,but it will come.

Mike Keegan has tweeted that Utd have agreed deals with both Lucas & RVP.

Surely not both?

Fergie's ghost-writer Bob Cass is the source of them, he is Fergie's PR mouthpiece in the media.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2183770/Manchester-United-splash-50m-Lucas-Moura-Robin-Van-Persie-Glazers-send-signal.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footba ... ignal.html</a>

United undoubtedly close the talent gap if true but skeptical poster is skeptical.

If they buy Moura that may mean Nani will go.

RVP would undoubtedly strengthen them
