Holy hell. Did you guys see Mexico almost didn't even make the WC playoff versus New Zealand last night. It took the US to score in stoppage time with its 'B' to keep Panama from qualifying for the playoff.

Never have I been so gutted with a win. Absolutely hate Mexico.

for me. I don't get this new wankfest for hating England. Yes we are not that good and there are rag players in the team, that is paid employees not fans

I enjoy the media frenzy and over optimism that comes with WC and so on, inevitably its a let down because we are full of shit but when the sun is shining and im sitting with my mates with a pint watching England its always a good day/night. 2006 is a flurry of pissed up days with my mates watching god knows who just because it was football and we all agreed we love football no matter who you support.
We will go out second round or Q Final and im okay with that its nothing new if we get some form or unbelievable luck and make it to the semi finals (think S Korea in 02) then that's brilliant

we always go into tournaments thinking we can win it.. germany, spain,& Brasil go into tournaments knowing they can win it..

Thats the difference, and til the FA give us that sort of confidence,we are there to make up the numbers..

Why is it up to the FA? for all this knowing they can win it Spain have won it once the same amount of times as us and only with one of the greatest international sides of all time, Germany may have won it 3 times but the last was 1990 and they have had it at home in that time. Brazil well they are Brazil, they do winning tournaments. Argentina since winning it in 1986 have always been among the favourites to win and haven't won it. The end of the day its not always the best team that win, I mean fuck knows how Italy won it in 2006

A national team with a bad ifrastructure like ours will never do well.. the same goes for any business model..

Not true. The Belgian football federation isn't exactly organised; this current crop is a complete freak. Yet they could be successful in the next few years due to the players they have. The same goes for Serbia, they have some of the greatest prospects in the world but their federation is undoubtedly one of the most corrupt. I could probably extend this back to years of Yugoslavia.

Like a previous poster ... as a Wales supporter, I've no major interest in the tournament

The missus is from Lyon and is a big -time 'Les Bleues' supporter.. For the sake of a bit of P&Q I'll muck in with her and the kids...

Zidane's going-out-with-a-headbutt did the trick.

as for 2014, vamos Espana! since Ireland aren't up for it

I am a born and bred Englishman, but I cannot and will not entertain the thought of cheering Rag players in the English side no matter how this may offend some England supporters.
I have followed City since the late 60s and I am STILL at a loss to why some plastic blues can cheer RAG players, England or not.
The abuse/hatred from their players and fans alike over the many years I have followed City means I will never be able to cheer for an England side that for the past 20 plus years has been dictated to mostly by what United want.
I must be a plastic blue then, even though I've had a ST for many years and go to quite a few aways.

To me, whenever a player puts on an England shirt I don't give a toss who his club team is (except Welshit).

Support England when we have a chance of winning something it is what you're saying then.

I agree with BoyBlue, dunno why so many people seem to enjoy proclaiming that they don't care about England any more. For me international tournaments have always been a time where you get pissed and watch footy all day with your mates and no matter what club side you follow you can all get behind England.

Every time I hear someone say something like "I stopped really enjoying watching England after about Euro 1996, I'm not sure why", the first thing that always springs to mind is "Because that's when we stopped being in contention to actually win tournaments?"

Please don't take this as a dig at England as it really isn't meant that way. I've never understood why some fans and the media get so worked up about England at World Cups. Apart from 1966 at a home tournament England have never achieved anything at national level. England are not a top nation and 1966 aside, never have been. The records of the real giants like Brazil, Italy, Germany, Argentina etc put England to shame. As for Wales, we never even qualified for 1958 under conventional methods.

I'm not arsed at all about England these days but the 1970 team was for me better than the 66 Winners. Quality wise only 2nd to Brazil in that tournament. Banks getting ill for the Quarter Final cost them.
