Non england followers World Cup 2014

No doubt England are overrated and generally are woeful in any meaningful tournament they play in, I never stopped supporting City when they were crap though and I wont stop supporting England for the same reason.
As for supporting a country (Team) I have zero affiliation with, that will never happen, I shall leave that to 99.9999% of the shitbag rags

I couldn't even get excited by our match last night,i watched Spain instead.

I don't get why i have no passion for our national side anymore.

Don't know where or why i lost interest. 96 was awesome, loved 98, think i lost it after 2002 thinking about it.

I have a simple theory why many of us City fans have stopped supporting England so fervently (myself included), and it's only partly down to the shiteness of England particularly in the last 10 years

Here goes;

From the mid 70's to the late noughties let's face it, as City fans, we knew we weren't going to win anything except as a freak occurrence. Don't get me wrong, nothing has or would ever stop me loving our club but particularly in the 80's and 90 we were mediocre at the best of times, bar a few great days (23/9/89 for instance)

Laughable as it may seem, but there was more chance of experiencing success by supporting England. We were willing to overlook some bad performances and the nearly moments helped ease some of the pain.

Moving forward to 2008. We all knew that money talks in football and from that day onwards, we've no longer had to support England for a chance at glory. And I think that the final nail of indifference to England was hammered in on those May days in 2011 and 2012. The poor England showings in competitions from 2000 onwards hasn't helped

To see if it was just me, I asked people I know that support other clubs how much they support England. This included Brighton fans (where I now live) that haven't been close to success for 30 years, and the general consensus has been that fans of bigger clubs tend to show more indifference.

Simply put, fans of successful teams are less likely to have as much passion for their national side.

So these days, I still want England to do well, but I just don't invest as much hopes n' dreams into them
