NON-Pro cycling

Well done mate.
After a pretty dismal showing in a 25k "fun" race at the weekend I decided to get a bit more serious and have just ordered a Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0. Can't wait for it to arrive as the halfords Carrera I have is definitely past it's usefulness. It was fine as a transition from MTB to road and I will put it on a trainer on my balcony for the wet days but I'm ready for something a bit more upscale now.

Check out this bad boy!!

My main Squeeze at the moment Madone 5.9 with Ui2 and with Mavic SLS wheels

Way too much to spend on a bike but last year after the Manchester 100 some daft git ran into the back of my car on the way home and wrecked my beloved Cannondale System Six which I had built up from frame level.
Anyway cut a mighty fine deal with the guys insurance (He was a rag twat checking scores on his mobile) And originally ordered a new Cannondale Super Six Evo but when 5 months late delivery wise I pulled the plug and went Trek.

Its a corking frame and for all day cycling quite brilliant very compliant and not a hint of back ache during or after the C2C this weekend. Bit weird when you look at the rear drops as the brake is not there.

-- Tue Jul 30, 2013 10:18 am --

Anyone recommend me a nice new bike?

Looking at spending maximum £1500. I would require a triple (for the really big mountains), and a more sportive frame for comfort, and ideally full carbon. I currently have a specialized and love it, but fancy an upgrade. Been recently looking at a new Specialized Roubix, any good?

I would love a bianchi but they only do the basic bike in a triple

I'm delighted with my Canyon Ultimate AL 9. You can have a triple as an option. It's £1550 at todays exchange rate but AL not carbon. But the spec is very good for the price.

Roubix has DT swiss Axis 1.0 wheels about 1900g.
Ultimate has Mavic Ksyrium Elite S 1520g.

Roubix - Shimano Tiagra/105 hardware
Ultimate - Shimano Ultegra 6700 hardware

Roubix weight 9.1kg
Ultimate weight 7.3kg

The Carbon Ultimate CF 9.0 has the same spec but a carbon frame and weight 7.1kg but costs about £1900 I decided that £350 for 200 grams wasn't worth it.

I have Coast to Coast this weekend, did in two days last year, pretty hard work and weather one day was pretty grim, however been talked into a one day assault this time out, 135 miles @ 12000 ft climbing, I am not looking forward to it one little bit.

But you'll have 12000ft of descending to look forward to!

I have a Roubaix and it's a very good, comfortable bike and would tick all the boxes you have mentioned. Mine's a few years old and the Comp model which is just over your budget. The frame on the others will be the same but they will save money on inferior parts so you need to take that into account...
