North Stand Construction Discussion

Is there any evidence of this at the Etihad?

I’ve sat in several hospitality areas including the ‘premium seat’ 93:20 and they are definitely quieter than even the average block, never mind the main singing areas like SSL1 or the back of SSL3.
People can sing in any section of the ground where there’s a will to do so. Equally, congregating all the recognised singers in South Stand Level 3 can result in a flat atmosphere like on Saturday. I just hope Danny Wilson and co aren’t so greedy that they do t try to squeeze loads of corporates into the expanded North Stand. The Sky Platform or whatever it’s being called is another matter.

FWIW,I was in the Tunnel Club for the West Ham game last season (the only time I’ve been in there) when Peo waived his arms to get a reaction from the fans. I started a chant of Come on City that spread around the ground.

We don’t get to see Haaland and even Foden without the corporate money so it’s better if we try to encourage chanting right around the ground.

I do get to an extent why people are worried over a '+' on a page, and some purple colour on one of the bar areas on a drawing.

I don't get why you think the whole stand will work or fail over this section.

It is not 'corporate'. It is not even that bloody '+'. Same seat size and spacing, same access in and out. All it has that's different, is direct access to a 400sqm bar. Which then has 5 access points to the same concourse and the two adjacent bigger 'common man bars' either side. With which it shares the same toilets. The bar layouts are the same throughout, the capacity is the same throughout, the + bar doesn't get any more room, booths, or its own toilets.

If it didn't have the + or the colour, literally nobody here would be able to tell the difference or worry about it. It would just look like one big area full of bars serving a large stand.

Which means it can easily change at any point to not be '+'. Or on the flipside, if it wasn't already that and everyone was happy now, that it couldn't change to '+' at any point in the future.

Don't have a go at me. Just a general observation from Saturday.

SSL3 support demographics. Mainly FOC's, Middle-aged Men and middle-aged Women, some younger women, kids.(full kits) More of a family and friendly feel and atmosphere. Very civil on the concourse. No chanting on the concourse.

SSL1 support demographics. FOC's, Youth (teens into their early thirties), some Women, not many kids. A bit of bear pit. Plenty of chanting on the concourse.

Various reasons. It's a discussion and argument that nobody can win. It’s a discussion and argument that will go on until the stand is open.

For me it's down to the demographics of our support that will be moving to NSL2, and the restrictions placed upon that support by the club, the seating layout, which we all ready know about, rules and regulations being implemented by the club and stewards, no standing(it won't be a safe standing tier), etc.

I accept for the 4-5 big games per season the atmosphere in the new NSL2 and around the ground will take care of itself.

You hit the nail on the head there.

Your issue is demographic/allocation, rather than design or the stand.

How they sell the tickets and who to, and where, is the discussion here. Or will be, in 2 years.

Few know what the '+' is, if there will be one. Could be an extra £500 a year, could be points amassed, could be you need your york away ticket stub to get into that seat and bar.

I still strongly maintain that it is actually young people that spend money more readily on 'enjoyment perks' than older people, btw. That's if you accept that young peaple are by default louder than older supporters, which I don't entirely.

I might be wrong, but weren’t you sat in the away section? Where most of the tickets weren’t season ticket holders. I was in the ss3 against Newcastle and it was full of chanting on the concourse/ stands and with lots of young lads - the demographic very similar to ss1.

It feels like you’re jumping to conclusions. If it’s properly organised, safe standing and regular season ticket holders it will be great.

It’s too early to say a north stand home end won’t be a success based on one game against Fulham. Where most of the people weren’t season ticket holders

There is no evidence to say what the actual intentions of the club is on this matter, hardly surprising when construction on the actual stand has not started and won't even open for another 2 seasons. Add to that "subject to change" , so no one is in a position to demand meeting with club officials.
Just a bit of clarification on this. Nobody has "demanded" a meeting with the club. We've asked for a meeting and the club have agreed to meet with us.
