North Stand Construction Discussion

Not sure I agree. The atmosphere at the swamp is nothing to write home about and certainly poor compared to the 70s and 80s. Even Derby games there are not intimidating any more.

Regulations have sanitised football now alot mate? You used to be able to be up singing and chanting etc and now half the time get told by showsec wankers to sit down and not show much emotion?

helps when the clubs back them 100% and you dont have to jump through hoops to arrange things with them

Correct.

From what I've read, United engaged with the different fan groups over a couple of seasons to get it up and running.

The on-going campaign against the Glazers may have changed the clubs stance towards those fan groups?

tbh if its the 3rd tier where the away fans usually sit then i', not surprised you were left disappointed

I wasn't left disappointed. I didn't go up there with any preconceptions. I went up there with an open mind. I knew it wouldn't be the same as it normally is without 1000+ away fans up there. I have sat up there on a couple of occasions in the past.

They are seated areas, you can’t have groups of fans deciding to stand whenever they feel like it that would cause chaos and ill feeling. Hopefully when the extension is done there will be enough standing for anyone that wants to stand and sing throughout the game to find a place.

Sorry. Forgot to add. The club at a lower level do engage with 1894. Those members of City staff are a great help with the SSL1 & 2 displays and banners. They also liaise with people higher up at the club and feedback to the lads running 1894.

The singing section at OT has improved the atmosphere at OT as there’s constant singing coming from that section that filters across to the Stretford End and they join in. As for the rest of the ground, it’s pretty much quiet bar the goal celebrations, as you say. The only other part of OT that get’s behind the team every now and again is the K-stand, right next to the away fans.

After relocating to SSL3 on Saturday for the Fulham match as a one off, I have a very good idea what the expand NSL2 will be like. It won't be a proper home end.
When did the prototype look like the finished item

Prototype?

As HelloCity explained, it was just a one off trial. I thought the trial was pretty useful. There were some positives to take from it.

Again, going off the PA, sorry for constantly going off that, fans won’t be allowed to stand at the back of NSL2. I can’t remember exactly what is planned for the back of NSL2. Think it’s something to do with the hotel/guests? I‘ll dig out the docs this week showing the NSL2 seating layout.

It is but there’s a big gap and wall from the back of the tier seating to the hotel bar/ seating area if I remember correctly which I may not to be be fair.

Same here. I can’t remember. It’ll be in the docs somewhere. :-)

It wasn’t even a prototype.

A few people just went a sat near the back to see how the sound would travel.
I may chose the wrong word but how do you make a judgement about something about a small trial that apparently failed. Who judged how far the the sound travel and what equipment did you use to prove the distance. So you can't say it is not going to work when the North Stand is completed just on a whim of JRB. I think we used to make a lot of noise in the Scoreboard end And the Popular Side (Kippax Street Stand) before they were covered, more about the size of the crowd than cover. I wait the wrath of the usual suspects who think they own the club.

Why did it apparently fail?

It’s not a whim. It’s my opinion given what we know so far.

That doesn’t mean I’m right.

Believe it or not I‘m trying to play Devils Advocate. I want the new home end to work. To be a success. To be the best, loudest and most atmospheric home end in England and in the PL.

I don’t own a share of the club anymore, even though I’ve still got my City share certificate to prove I once owned a very small share of the club. :-)

This is what City should have been looking at doing for the NS expansion. Instead they decided to go in another direction.

As it was explained during last week's presentation, the goal is ”more tickets in the lower price segment”. With many young people in Frankfurt being eager to chant but priced out from the more expensive seats, expansion of the standing area is key both for a more vibrant atmosphere and expansion of the fanbase.

Currently Deutsche Bank Park has some 9,000 standing places, of which 7,435 are located in the lower north-west end (remainder in the away block). Demand is far greater and Eintracht is famous across Europe for the large fanbase of active fans. Once the upper north-west stand has seats removed and rows added, it will bring additional 12,909 standing places.

This in turn means Eintracht's standing terrace will reach 20,344 (covering all the space shown above), becoming the second largest worldwide, only behind Dortmund's Südtribüne (24,454). And Eintracht's representative did admit during last week's presentation that Borussia was somewhat of an inspiration for the changes. While in Frankfurt it would not possible to create a single-tier terrace without extremely costly demolitions, removal of skyboxes dividing the stand is an economically viable way to almost merge both tiers.

Off to cut the grass and to enjoy the nice weather.
Well said @jrb Pep wants atmosphere but the nameless execs seem to want to go the other way ....

people make the noise not the ground, look at the Dortmunds yellow wall what would that be like if it wasn't for the robotic Germans. Do you want to jump up and down like that for about 70 minute. The posnan only last about 2 minutes at the most.
