North Stand Construction Discussion

I remember that new stand they put their to replace the Kippax Street and wishing it could be blown up, IMO of course, I thought it was awful.
I remember being in the top of the new Kippax when Oasis played. Everyone was jumping up and down and the stand seemed like itwas swaying side to side by about 3 feet. I felt I had sea sickness and it would collapse.

That gig was the only time I was in there and I only went in new Platt Lane once. North stand was the best place to be I think.

Going back to the roof beams.

Having at least one in place for the CL home game against Real Madrid and shown on the TV world wide before the match would be a great statement of intent for the club.

Slightly off topic.

Tailspin's picture.
Warning lights on the cranes

The amount of tower and crane warning lights(aircraft, drones, etc) across the city centre is very impressive ATM.

The picture was taken from the Ashbury train station footbridge.

Have a look at the city centre from Strinesdale in Oldham, it looks almost surreal with all the lights compared to how it looked 20 years ago !

Thanks. I’ve screen grabbed your post.

I’m going to go on the car park on Upper Brook Street when I do my next city centre construction roundup. It’s a good vantage point to get pictures of the Etihad. I’m also waiting for the Ancoats Mobility Hub to open. The pictures of the Etihad from there will be great.

I wonder which is taller ? From ground level on the outside

If anyone knows or can find the height of the new Kippax before it went, some figures of the North Stand for comparison below.

The top of the actual roof (excluding structural supports) : 39 metres from outside ground. Internally, this is 46m above the pitch level - so add 7m to any figure below for height from the pitch.

64m to the top of the roof structure (from outside ground). This is actually interestingly just taller than the current tallest pier, of the east/west spirals, although it doesn't look it in perspective.

Technically the most inhabited point is the skywalk platform, at 54m above outside ground.

The highest seat in the stand is 32.5m above ground level (39.5m) above the pitch.

All these are higher than the south stand, but apart from the top of the structure (a good 7m of a difference), not by that much.

Re the New Kippax, if anyone has some figures or a drawing, we can compare. It is broadly level with the pitch, so the height from the ground is noticeable. It held 14,000 which is just under 2k less than the north stand, and it was the tallest stand in the UK at the time.

Like a big middle finger to uefa & Madrid….maybe we can have two in place for the scousers

I’ve been up there to take pictures. I don’t know the area well, so I wasn’t familiar with the name you posted . It’s a great view if anyone wants to see the whole of the Manchester skyline. And there’s a football pitch up there, if you fancy a game of football?
Bit old to be chasing a football round, Rather have a nice Sunday lunch in the Roebuck ;-)
