North Stand Construction Discussion

They're really not messing around, are they? A decent spring and summer should see some good progress
did you see the guy who climbed out of his cab and clambered all the way out to the end of his crane jib last week, high above the stadium - total respect all round!
Balls of fucking steel, harness or no harness

Coatigan just reminded me via PM. Thanks.

I'm on the Open Doors event tomorrow at the Etihad, North stand.

There is no onsite tour sadly, but understandable, as it's a very busy construction site, as you all know. However, there is a viewing platform, so I will get some pictures from that vantage point, and I will also do a construction picture roundup.

There is a Q&A session as part of the event, so if you have any questions at all please post them in the thread today. I will write the questions down and pass them on to the (SISK) person doing the Q&A.

Please keep the questions about the construction of the North stand expansion.

Thanks.

Accepting the stand extension won’t be completed and tested until early 2026, will the new roof be in place and the old one be removed before August?

The only reasonable question from me that would get an answer is what is the weight of the capping pieces.

There are quite a few things that interest me, but doubt they would be something they could answer on the spot, or would either.

Do you know if anyone form the design team will be part of the event or just Sisk?

Not sure they'd answer this, but - When are they projecting handover to City? Are they on programme?

Yes. It has to be - there’s no other time to get on the pitch and do the work after pre-season. As soon as the season ends the cranes will be on the pitch to pull the old roof down.

They’re already making decent progress with the new roof and I imagine most trusses will be in place by the end of April/early May. They’ll have 3 months after the season finishes to polish it all off.

Exactly this also, its is why we end the season away and start next season away to give max time possible

Can you ask them when the new roof is expected to be self supporting.

So no chance of asking the construction workers if they’ve heard the result of 115?

I doubt most of those people mentioned will be there tomorrow.

This week is Open Doors 2025 and we have sites across the UK supporting Build UK to encourage the next generation to choose a career in construction.

Today a group of 15 school children visited our Etihad Stadium North Stand Expansion site in Manchester. They listened to a range of presentations, including a 4D model demonstration and what a career in construction offers, had a Lego challenge to learn about how sites operate plus experienced views across the site in person with the help of of our colleagues.

Speakers and attendees included Paul Brown, our CEO, Alan Rodger, MD of our UK North and Infrastructure business, in addition to Build UK’s Deputy Chief Executive, Jo Fautley and Janette Barrett, Senior National Account Manager at the Department of Work and Pensions.

Paul Brown said: “Today has been great in showcasing to the young people who came today that the construction industry is ultimately good fun. Of course it has its really serious sides, but you can have fun on projects that is unique to the sector. If you like being outside or want a challenging career, this industry is fantastic. I hope we inspired those who came today and continue to do so during the rest of Open Doors week.”
