North Stand Construction Discussion

Just caught up on the last couple of days' worth of video updates.

Why on earth is the entire western elevation of the office dead? Every single bay there is solid backing panels, and insulation going in. No reason at all that all of it, most of it, or even at least some of it couldn't have been clear glazing. Even where the cores are there is enough of an offset for clear glass as a corridor. Do they not want daylight or views on that side at all? It is also different to what has been approved. Bizarre.

They have already removed two of the angled temporary props on either side outwards working in. They seem to put the end beam piece and remove the prop to each beam as they go.

With the pitch protective covering going on and the seats to the bottom temporarily removed, can't be long till the old roof starts coming fully off.

The steel truss below the linking bridge to the commercial buolding will stay exposed, unlike on the hotel side. This will also hide the 'mini-bridge' at L3 where the geometey soesnt line up with the above.

Coming back to it again, I am genuinely surprised by that whole western elevation of the commercial building. For one, not what was approved. But even so, why on earth woukd anyone actually want that?

The north elevation has no clear glazing, as it it behind the screen. The south has none, because it abuts the stand tower. If they make the entire west side solid, which is what they are doing, then they only have light and views from one of the three sides of the building. To what are quite deep floor plates. Juat what is actually going in there?

So weird.

He won’t when his boss drags him in the office in the morning.

City should buy SS Skies old drone along with CP Overviews drone and put them in the new City Museum.
Hope i don't get him into trouble, on different videos throughout my time of doing them I've caught guys vaping, no hard hat, playing keepy uppy with some rubbish and on there phones, but we are only human. Think on the latest one or the one before there was a workers bum in show. We don't do it intentionally just want to show progress. With the pitch getting covered today they will ramp up on the roof later in the week towards the weekend. Imagine that in the new museum, these are the drones that have brought many an update to the fans, workers, and staff alike.

Not for one second do you film things like that on purpose. You were filming when he was doing that. That isn’t your fault. As a construction worker you know the rules on a construction site, especially when you are that high up, where he was. The other construction workers should have told him to stop.

Thanks jrb I also remember filming someone trip over a rope, they are funny at the time, but not to the person they happen to. I suppose they are never gonna get the opportunity again at the etihad, unless the Colin bell stand and west stand get developed eventually, even then it could be someone other than Sisk for that project. Hope City beat Fulham tomorrow to cement a champions league place which I'm sure will happen and you never know Everton could beat Newcastle at ST James park and shut up the magpies.

Yes agreed it is strange. The other thing I’m unsure about is how Sisk have been very efficient ( in my humble opinion) about the expedition ( order and delivery ) of materials as and when required excepting the electrical gear (air con and heat source pumps ) on the hotel roof ! Been there so far for about 4-5 months and no fitting ? Whilst I appreciate thi is a subcontractor issue , I’m sure Sisk will have paid for them as MOS ( material on site ) in monthly valuations. And even if they are only paid a per

agreed very wierd !! Can someone offer a reason as to why the M&E subcontractor has had all the aircon/ heat recovery equipment ( I’m guessing c£500k worth ) on the roof for about 5 months (without even unpackaging ) can’t be good for efficient cash flow as construction margins are very tight !:-(

The office block part of it did get delayed, did it not. Maybe it was more hassle to delay the deliveries and pay for the stock to be held there, rather than getting it to site.

Could be true I suppose , but it’s an enormous amount of costly kit ! Plus point pretty safe where it is , unless local villains have a chinook !;-)

Do you not think they were on a mid morning / afternoon tea break and to get from there to the canteen wasn’t an option ? No excuse for the swing though :-(
