North Stand Construction Discussion

Great spot, Gordyola.

Thanks.
To some extent the question still remains as to the order of drilling I suspect they have a drill template for the post, hopefully one of our esteemed drone guys will catch the process

I think they have to be off the site 3 days before a match so if I am right it is 3 days
Sure it will have to be inspected by someone to check its safe and nothing is going to fall off etc,
cutting it fine or there could be some dissapointed people who sit below in the North stand,
pretty sure all will be fine though

I actually meant to say 2 days, but I thought last season they had to close the site down before a match.
Just for the day of the match IIRC
They had some guys onsite to monitor in case of heavy rain you could see them watching the game

You know the 2 massive screens facing Joe Mercer way… Well when you think about it there’s no point in them really is there?
Even when walking up towards them you won’t even be able to see one of them because Co-op live is in the way.

When you get closer there’s not much space between them and the tram line, it’s more a walkway. Plus being up close to a screen that size wouldn’t be particularly clear to see anyway.

They might look cool on aerial pictures like we see currently but it’s probably just decoration because they couldn’t think of anything else to put on the ends. Ha.

Yeah the single one at the end of the hotel will be better as you can see it from many angles like from the road, walking around the stadium, approaching the hotel etc, but isn’t that one even allowed to have video due to housing? So probably just be a permanent advertisement screen.

Anyway, I like them, not being negative, just saying when you think about it they’re pretty pointless really from a useful point of view.

Yes there are restrictions due to overlooking the residential properties and Alan Turing Way as follows from planning approval

"That no individual advertisements displayed on the screens shall contain any moving images (including moving images, animation, video or full motion images) or that resemble road signs, traffic lights or traffic signs;

- That no individual advertisements shall be displayed for a duration of less than 10 seconds; - Details of controls to ensure smooth uninterrupted transition of images - Details of a light sensor in order to adjust the brightness of the signs in ambient light levels.

- Details of a defaults black screen in the event of malfunctioning to avoid any flashing error messages or pixilation

- That the maximum luminance level of the advertisements displayed on the screen shall not exceed 300 cd/m2 during non-daylight hours / inclement weather; and

- Details to prevent any upward light spill.

The LED Screen C shall be implemented in full in accordance with the approved details and thereafter retained and maintained in situ for as long as the signs remain in use.

Does anyone know why the translucent sections at the front of the north stand only cover about 1/4 of the roof whereas on the south stand it extends back to about 3/4 of the roof? And by the looks of it there is no kind of insulation going in between the lower and upper cladding of the NS roof.

I used to take the Michael of my grandad who would sometimes sit and watch construction sites - I am now that man waiting patiently for the latest drone footage from our 2 brave warriors lol... Have I got that old already?
Don’t worry mate you are not alone.

I would still like to see that Ipswich fan who, whilst in the Metrolink queue after their game early last season, told me the stand was on wheels and would be pushed forward when finished.

Told him he was barking mad but he insisted he knew somebody on the build. Think those people living in backwaters might suffer from inter-breeding.

Why does it need insulation?

I would guess that the south stand roof casts a bigger shadow on the pitch than the other stands due the position of the Sun especially in winter and reduces the light on the pitch, although now that they use the artificial light gantries its less important
I raised the insulation question when they put the first outer panels in place, as the old roof was insulated, the only suggestion was about noise isolation however rock wool isn't a great insulators for sound

They probably write NFS for those from Ipswich, as opposed to NFN for Norfolk!!IMG_3977.png
