North Stand Construction Discussion

Medlock square ?
Are they? You see that’s why I’m confused. In any image of Matlock there are glass frontages down the side of the hotel and the office block. So that suggests any outlets are inside serving both the new Matlock square and the inner spaces inside the hotel. It’s just the blue areas on that plan are on the small size and I just wonder how it will work serving 100s in Matlock square and many indoors. I’m not being negative just trying to understand.

It's 100% a gamble. If you read what he is saying.

I get it, you don't like people reacting negatively to things. But there are some sensible posters making sensible comments and you are jumping at them without maybe getting their point. Which in itself isn't even that negative.

He is not talking about a gamble on the return, he is talking about the shift that brings.
Sensible? Me?

Why is it a gamble ? City will now always be competing, the coop arena isn't going anywhere, neither is the biggest hotel in Manchester...
It's called evolution, we keep evolving... no ?

Think the confusion is in what you consider outlets vs units.

Football, Music, Entertainment

Those that consistently comment, often negatively, are usually those that say they are staying in the South Stand lower where they can have `banter` with away fans, think that they are making a lot of noise under the concrete overhang from the level above, and wave their flags at the front for a few minutes before the game starts. That is assuming they are not still in the concourse, throwing beer over one another and singing themselves hoarse so that by the time they get in the ground they do not have much left to give.

If some fans want to go to Mary D`s, the 2 pubs on the estate at the back of the south stand, or Manchester city centre, or whenever, that is there choice and preference. No one else is concerned about what they want to do or feels the need to comment about other fans options.

So, why have we got those not affected or impacted by the North Stand constantly bemoaning almost everything about it? It is almost like a deliberate intention to undermine its success. And, why over rely on artistic impressions? They are targeted at different audiences at different times.

City aim to create a long term, sustainable football club which competes at the very top. This requires income not solely from football matches on a relatively few days / nights a year, but from a wide range of other sources. The club, Manchester and specifically East Manchester will benefit from extending the sports led regeneration to making it an all round football, music and entertainment set up.

What Manchester City FC has achieved is remarkable.

Football, Music, Entertainment - with City still well placed in all 4 competitions.

Well said mate. ANOTHER £350m-£400m spent!

Its maybe just me mate but all the images I have seen seem to suggest there are no outlets actually in Medlock square. Then if you look at the plans for the hotel you see space for F and B which I took to be space for fans. I also see the spaces shaded in dark blue and make an assumption that is space for bars and food but they are relatively small. hence the question how will it work? I should have just asked you in he first place.

I think where you are getting confused is the hotel is not on the ground floor and they will have a food and beverage court which will be different food and drink options like in a shopping centre. To get to the ground floor of the hotel the entrance is around the corner and you will take a escalator or stairs up a level to the reception

And food outlets in Medlock Square

No one know who or what will occupy them as they'll presumably be put out to tender or however these things work. It's the buff coloured sections on both diagrams.
Ok, so that space is for F and B users and for food units and bars? Why on earth arent' they on the plan? I would have thought the space for bars and the backroom spaces for beer etc would be on the plan as they will take up quite a bit of space.

not confused in the slightest mate. I just don't see any sign of the footprints for food outlets and bars on the plan for the ground floor. I'm assuming this detail will come in time and they will be located in the 'buff area'. I am surprised that the plan doesnt show any footprint for them when it does show the detail of how many toilet cubicles there are. Anyway, What I'm taking from this is that there are no food outlets in Matlock square (from the images) and that food and drink will be accessed by those in Matlock square from inside the ground floor of the hotel in the spaces marked buff. Maybe thats not right but its what the images and plans show at present.

Like what mate? Genuinely interested as i think it looks amazing!

Let me start by saying, this is not a moan, before I get accused of moaning again. It’s an observation.

City Hall.

In the PA, I thought, like many other people, City Hall was going to be one huge bar area with a capacity of 1800 for all City fans to mix and to enjoy pre and post match, similar to the much smaller bar at the back of SSL1, which has been a huge success, and is always packed with City fans of all ages enjoying a chant, drinks, and a sing song.

From the PA.

Somewhere down the line City decided to do away with that 1800 capacity City Hall open to all City fans, and instead they decided to divide City Hall up and create another hospitality area within City Hall, called…… City Hall.(hospitality)

CITY HALL

City Hall has been created as a lively social space for fans who enjoy an energetic matchday atmosphere.

The space will feature large screens and a live DJ, while on non-matchdays, City Hall will act as a flexible hub for events.

Fans in City Hall will enjoy a welcome drink on arrival, with gourmet street food available for purchase.

Padded seats are located at the back of Level 0 in the North Stand.

Some people might say so what, it’s just another hospitality bar for City fans. Fair enough.

The point being, from ‘my perspective’, looking at the PA, the original City Hall was going to cater for all City fans coming into it from the City fan zone. It would be a ‘single hall’ for everyone on a match day to meet, chant, drink, sing songs, etc. It would be our home end bar, serving all City fans, a hall that’s now been made smaller to fit in a 500 capacity(?) table and seats City Hall hospitality area.

I get it, some people on here won’t be arsed. It’s more match day revenue for the club. Even though the original 1800 capacity City Hall would have generated a huge match day revenue in itself. Again, hospitality revenue over GA fan revenue.

If I’m wrong in my thinking about City Hall as it is now, fair enough, I’ll accept the correct explanation.

Fire away.

Can i just say... ;)

Looking at the stand from the south stand the seats that are down the sides look like they have an obstructed view or it could just be the angles I’m viewing it from, you certainly can’t see the side stands if you are on that side, but I suppose as long as you have a full view of the pitch that’s not a big issue.
