North Stand Construction Discussion

I'm not guessing though, ;-)
Villa is now a milestone date through DoV. By hook or crook I think Sisk will have the stand open for the Villa game. Otherwise they'll be hit hard financially and could lose the Leeds United extension.

I’ll have to take your word for that. :-)

Just out of interest, when will the test events be taking place, so the safety licences can be issued? That has to be factored into the completed build timescale as well.

Likely to be 8th 16th and 20th May. The latter could potentially fall on a league game night depending on how far we get in the FA Cup.

Thanks.

Like you and everyone else I do want the North stand to be open and operational this season, even if it’s only for the Villa game.

I wouldn't open it personally unless we could still win the league that day.

I agree with you. :-)

I’m not saying this will happen, but I don’t want a similar scenario to the farce, dreadful PR, and public backlash that followed the botched Coop Live Arena opening. I’m sure you know CFG own half of the Coop Live Arena?

I appreciate Sisk want to to get the stand built and open on time because if they don’t it will cost them millions in fines. If the stand isn’t going to be open on time, Sisk and City will know that in advance, and I’d rather City and SISK accept the North stand isn’t going to open on time, come to an amicable agreement, and work together towards a completed and proper opening date for the North stand after the season has finished. I appreciate it doesn’t work like that in the construction industry as there are set timescales and penalty clauses if construction and finished timescales aren’t met.

Bam has said its loss-making contract to build the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester is now off its books.

The group’s chief executive Ruud Joosten told Building the firm had completed final contract negotiations with client Oak View Group earlier this month.

“It’s all sorted,” Joosten said. “It’s out of the portfolio. We’re very happy. It’s an excellent building but it’s had some issues.”

Joosten declined to say how much money the firm had lost on the job but confirmed it was “millions and millions”.

Mr Doom & Gloom strikes again. ;-)

@Coatigan What do you think about the speed of the exterior work? Feels like progress over the winter was quite slow.

It always is tbf. Shorter days, bad weather, illnesses, generally poor motivation, festive breaks etc. Does also feel like they have supply and delivery logistics to manage. You can see with the sails, they had a big delivery and got a whole bunch up, then had a pause, then recently another spurt. Progress on the stand itself though seems to have slowed down, from what we can see in the videos.

I still don’t see anything that would make me think an end of april (stand only) finish isn't doable, with an early may use for tests. It always amazes what they can do in those final weeks when push comes to shove.

They do make granite paviors but they cost the earth sadly
I’m sure we can afford it mate. Manchester centre is full of them.
If we don’t make the outside of the ground better than that crap they laid before, it will be really disappointing.
Granite is the only thing that will take the footfall, anything else like a painted resign won’t last 5 years.

Anyone think that we may not fill the new stand and the media will have a field day?

Our own fans have photographed the incomplete North Stand and alleged it’s “empty seats” bla, bla, bla so I think we will live with some piss taking in the media.

If all the worried fans can encourage friends / families / neighbours to be match going Blues, the ground should be pretty full.

Live with it? I won't notice it.

What’s wrong with concrete or clay block paviors ?granite would cost 150-200 quid per square metre , do the maths ;-)
