I'd need to check the dwgs but I think the below ground work could be for a petrol interceptor.

Beige curtains/cloths are being hung from the steel roof trusses inside the fan zone.

Has anyone got an idea what they are being used for?

Are they plastic or fabric bubbles to be inflated to make the roof?

I don't know if you have noticed in the pictures, but the right-side claw brickwork is much better-looking and neater than the left-side claw brickwork.

The beige cloth could be to protect the cladding from the welding sparks

Forgive me for being stupid / naive but I thought “ petrol interceptors” were for petrol stations and other areas of heavy vehicular traffic , but in front of a hotel ??

The return of the Kippax St Hawk?

When Manchester Victoria Station installed a similar roofing structure, it was damaged by seagulls. The gulls pecked at the polymer roof panels, creating holes that allowed for the flow of rainwater. I don't think the Etihad has a problem with gulls but the return of the Kippax hawk might be advisable.
