Not from Manchester, Not from the Uk, and I am a City Fan

I know i have posted my story before but I will again. I played "soccer" here in the states from the time I was 4 till about 18 (quit in college due to a conflict with the coach and, frankly, I was burned out). I never had a "team" per say but as a striker I was naturally drawn to Robbie Fowler (i know i know, bare with me). Around the time I got over my "burn out", i started following English "football" seriously, it was also at this time that City purchased Fowler. It wasn't just Fowler that drew me to City, it was also City's underdog status ("lovable losers" as we call 'em in the States). Ironically, my brother is a United fan so sibling rivalry drove me into City's arms as well.

So long story short, hard times and now not-so-hard times, I love City.

I'm English, born in Somerset but lived all over the country and moved to Abu Dhabi in 1990 when I was 9. About the same time I started supporting City - I literally have no recollection as to why. Before that I liked Arsenal so putting two and two together I figure that I had a strange love for Niall Quinn and followed him to City.

Living abroad all my life made it difficult to watch us play. I've only been to two games, one at Loftus Road and one at Eastlands. I managed to get to Maine Road once to see us play Everton in 94 but it was an all-ticket match. All those miles and I didn't get to see our home :( Gutted.

I also have to admit that I walked out on City during the playoff final. I managed to find an audio stream on the internet but by 90 mins it was all too much, I was practically in tears and needed to buy some cigarettes so fucked off out of the house. Came back and my (Leeds Utd supporting) brother is jumping around saying its gone to extra-time. Since then I've never turned off the tv or internet and I'd never leave my seat if I am ever lucky enough to watch us play live again.

I've loved the rollercoaster so far and I'm sure theres waaaaaaaaaaaay more thrills ahead. Hopefully good, happy, trophy-laden thrills. Starting tomorrow.

cannot believe some of the closed shop replies on here its fuckin embarrasing

anyway the more the merrier for me dont care where your fucking from or how long you supported us just jump on board and ignore the fucking dinosaurs on here.

what do my rag mates keep saying to me?

if we wanna compete with those cunts on popularity we need everyone!!

I'm not from manchester, I wasn't at york away am I still allowed to come to manchester tomorrow to watch the game in a pub or will I not be allowed within 5 miles of the city? ;) I'm sure there's a fair few mancunians that support city now we're good but don't get questioned constantly because they have a manc accent.

That's a good point. Lets take two examples.

Bloke A: From Plymouth, been going to City since the mid-80s, supports City because everyone he knew growing up was a Rag or a Dipper. Attends 10-15 games a season and has done each season since he "chose" City.

Bloke B: Born and raised in Gorton, likes football but never really followed a team, just wants both Manchester clubs to do well against the others. Started supporting City full on two years ago and now goes to most home games.

Neither has a ticket for tomorrow, and you have one spare. You can only give it to one of these two. Who goes?
A for me but sorry i have no spare

Me either so they can both get to fuck :-D

Read the first 5 pages and couldn't go any further. Fuck right off posting about how you are such a huge, die hard, lifer City fan and you starting supporting us 2 years ago. F.f.s this is getting bad.

Plenty of overseas Blues have supported us for donkeys years. Dont fucking come on here and prance around Timbuktu and fucking Uganda and Hickville mountain city giving it the biggen about passionate City fan. It really is hard to knock on the Rags for all their gloryboys and day-trippers when we are accepting so many cretinous bandwagoners almost over night.

From Manchester and a Blue it means the most, Don't give a shit where you are from but don't suddenly try and rub shoulders with people who have been through it all with City.

Sad bastard. It's like supporting City whilst we were shit is some sort of badge of honour to you.

Last year at the FA Cup Final.
I was stood with my daughter and got talking to the kid next to me. Irish lad from Dublin, came to the game alone.
Me, naturally nosey ,asked him "Why City?"
"Everyone at school supported Nited or Liverpool" he replied. "They were all cunts"
" You ll do for me mate" says I
Nice kid, obviously didn't choose City for the prestige or the glory , but fuck me ,I bet he s milking it now .

I cannot say I´m a City fan or supporter. I´m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. And I´m a Boca Juniors supporter. I used to follow the team everywhere, even travelling for 20 hours just to watch a game and come back home right after the match (20 more hours). Its been almost an year since I dont go to the stadium, because of personal matters. I feel certain sympathy for Manchester City. First of all, because I´ve allways felt curious about the fact that in almost every city in the planet, there are two football clubs with complete different backgrounds. One of them, is the rich team. And the other is the poor, the popular one. Boca Juniors belong to the second type. And, for what I was told, so is Manchester City (The People´s Club). Besides, as a Boca Juniors supporter, I try to watch every match in wich our Carlos Tevez play. Maybe, right now, he is not your favourite player. But, he plays as a real "bostero" (that´s how we are called).

You sound like a decent lad and we would welcome city fans like yourself I think a lot of blues (me included) are uneasy about accepting 'new' city fans which seem to have picked us as their club just because we're doing well.
Tevez is the best footballer i've ever seen in a blue shirt, its just he has let himself down by acting like a prick but I do find it funny how fickle us football fans are.

viva tevez!

whats a bostero?

Thats a great post pal. It reminds me of the old blueprint fanzine which used to compare our club to similar clubs such as Athletico Madrid, Torino, 1860 Munich due to similarities and similar to you I have always had a soft spot for those type of clubs as a consequence.

Everyone is welcome to follow City and enjoy the football we play, its fantastic for the club. However those who have followed the club after the takeover and claim they support us, such as the op, because were now a big club and then claim they are the same as lads and lasses who have followed the club for years, makes me feel a little uneasy.
