Nottingham Forest (A) | Post Match Thread

Said this all along, the media narrative was that 5 subs helps those with deeper squads. But in fact it helps defensive low block outfits to bring on fresh legs to run around when their starting jobbers are tired from chasing the ball for an hour
Which is only common sense when you think about it. Most games City will not want or need to change 5 players as it will tend to disrupt rather than enhance what we are trying to do. However if your approach is to run around and close down space the ability to replace half the outfield players like for like gives you a boost going into the final quarter. What the Forest game demonstrates to me at least is the need in certain circumstances to be able to respond to this kind of change by the opposition by using subs ourselves. I would anticipate that if Bournemouth* are in the same position on the hour next Saturday they will try to do something similar to Forest.

Get the being positive stuff but we were playing a shockingly shite team who couldnt hold onto the ball for longer than 5 seconds. So not buying that. Was poor and very irritating throw away of 2 points . . . again
The intensity from the team & positivity from Grealish & Foden looking to take on defenders was a big improvement on most games this season. If they play like that & bring their shooting game then we'll have an excellent finish to the season.

One of those days, thought we were brilliant.

Would rather draw playing our way, than trying to suffocate a 1-0 win.

Told my lad it would probably end 1-1 the way it was panning out.
Sorry but I see no reason why we can't as you put it suffocate a game after winning it by playing an expansive game.
I agree that it was a better performance than many recent setbacks but the needless dropping of points might be crucial later in the season. Also as you should be fully aware good defending is in its own way a thing of beauty and certainly not something to be looked down upon.

Petty, I know. But is this allowed??? Two footies on the pitch.
Forest score without us touching the ball, from this starting point.

Yes it is. They changed the law recently so two balls on the pitch doesn’t mean the referee has to automatically stop the game. They now only need to stop play if it interferes with play.

With respect i disagree slightly
These games are now far too predictable now when we go 1 up.
I don't know whether its a pep tactic slightly not to go a little easy to save legs etc but everyone knew what was going to happen when we didn't score a 2nd. Copy and paste the Everton game and the Villa away game I think it was. Its so frustrating even listening to it on the radio you knew what was coming. It's like seeing the same film agai when you know the outcome.
The main question is why are we not scoring more goals when we've got arguably the world's best striker? Foden also has take a lot of the blame for failing to pass properly.
All in all a very poor result.

Pep didn't react to the Wood sub.
2nd this. I was screaming for sub either Ake or Akanji come on when I saw Wood. It is so plain and simple basic stuff. Just manage the game out Pep!

KDB and Foden should both came off. KDB had a shocker. Foden was good but a 60 min is enough for anyone returning from injury.

if this is their goal we had a shot that went into the crowd. Keeper used an alternative ball for the goal kick and the original ball was then thrown on the pitch and landed behind the keeper. Ref had no idea there were two balls on the pitch and I reckon it was about four of five seconds later keeper looked round and kicked it off. Ref should have stopped the game and restarted it. I don’t recall this being when they scored but may be wrong

We were shit against both Everton and Villa and got what we deserved, as we tried to see it out 1-0.

We were not shit against Forest, far from it. Even at 1-0, we were going all out for the second and our urgency was spot on.

We have scored more goals than anyone in the division and Haaland has 33, so I'm not sure what else people are expecting?

Foden was caught in two minds, which I understand, because he is trying to impress Pep again and was waiting for Haaland to join up, and lost his footing deciding to be unselfish.

It was a poor result but the performance was very encouraging, certainly in terms of quite a few games this season where we are in possession for the sake of it or can't break down the packed defences.

Nobody can legislate for not taking our chances, but we will win most games out of sight playing the way we did.
