Nottingham Forest (H) | PL | Post-Match Thread

Driving me mad that I can’t remember who played what I thought was the pass of the night, please help. First half, out left to Cancelo, but he was fuming as he miscontrolled it - was it Rodders? Foden ? Bizz , can’t recall, but was outstanding
Stones.

When we attacked it was reminiscent of the old five-man forward line of the 1960s with Bell, Lee, Young, Sumerbee, and Coleman. I thought it was a playing style that had died out in modern football because it was seen as too risky defensively. But Pep doesn't give a shit does he? He will try anything. I think sometimes he just gets a bit bored and wants to have a bit of fun. After watching football close-up for 55 plus years I am amazed by Pep. There may be managers with bigger trophy hauls but he is the best coach of all time with strategy and tactics.

Erm, don't think there's many managers with better trophy hauls and even less realtive to the number of years in the job.

I don't think boredom comes into his tactics and team selection ;-)

He shifted the shape of the team last year; although the template personnel wise remains 4-3-3, he morphed things to being more of a variation on 4-2-4. The variations being mainly around where the full backs spend most of the game.
Yesterday, Cancelo was basically playing left wing and Dias, Stones and Walker operated as a back three. Dias spent much of the game in the LB position. So we ended up in a kind of 3-2-4-1 (or 3-2-5).

This is clearly a response to teams sitting back so much against us, often with a five man backline.

Let's hold fire and just let Haaland play his game
please don't buy into this media shit that Haaland is the best in the world and will score 40 Premier League goals,
they want nothing more than him failing and city winning nothing,

also, I would like to point out that it's so much more than just the Haaland show, the whole teams are working so hard for each other and Haaland is just a part of it,

something is very different this season and the feeling in and around the stadium is electric
I think the pressure is off, and now the whole club is just bearing the fruit because of the hard work over the last 10 years,

great result and we go again

I agree with the sentiment completely, but it really is the Haaland show right now.
The buzz on the concourse before the game yesterday was all about him. He is box office. He will sell out stadiums everywhere we go.

Even Forest's support gave him a standing ovation when he was subbed.

Alvarez must start every game.

Apologies to Grealish, Mahrez and anyone else.

It was like watching a young Sergio.

Both goals were that of an elite striker.

So much intensity, great in the press, fantastic link man, quick.

Very excited.
Totally agree.
Wonder what happened to Brazilian Gus these days….knew everything about SA football (according to him) but obviously fuck all about the best young striker in Argentina!
This boy is absolutely what we needed.
Presses harder than Jesus, quicker, fitter and better finisher.
Brilliant signing.
