Nottingham Forest (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

A performance that was symptomatic of the season, particularly of late. Relegation fodder are there for the taking, despite the refs determination to keep Forest in it, but if yer gonna gift 'em two goals. I thought as soon as the 7 added went up that here's a 2-3! The trouble is that we have no answer for the typy of game that Forest and many teams in the bottom half bring to the Etihad. Athletes who can run for 90mins and give 'em a chance or two and there's enough football in 'em to grab it. I can't remember when we last gave a team a pasting.
 
Forgot to mention that I actually feel bad for Semenyo. He played incredibly well today especially considering the Norwegian plank made everything more difficult for him.

He should have made the sub and gone for the win earlier.

That narrow formation doesn’t suit us at all, doesn’t create chances for Haaland either.

Thank God we were saved a further 10 minutes of Doku.

He made tonnes of runs that Cherki then slowed down. Haaland lost it a couple of times.

Fouled to f**k all the time too. All.

I think he runs his heart out and nobody tries to find him to feet breaking the line.
Whilst some thug kicks him.

Teams have a better understanding of how to defend it and counter that's why it's harder to kill off games. That side to side build up game never had the most urgency but we had more quality, so we could have patience.

I agree we lack aggression and that's nothing to do with the style of play..that's a mentality thing. Put ability aside, I don't really see people with the same fire as KDB for example. As great a player as he was, a fair few of his big moments were born out of sheer willpower, not just being a great player. I don't see much of that in our current players, that touch of anger.

I think the way Pep sees football and wants to play it, requires very good and intellingent players with good techinal ability in almost every position. Yes other teams know better how to play against it , but he just doesnr have that quality in this team anymore. Think about his Barcelona, Bayern or his best City teams. Great quality all over the pitch with good players coming off the bench to add some spark.

Such a poor performance given the position we are in. We are just not ‘quite’ the championship material we have all got used to. Arse were 1-0 up with an XG OG 0.01 according to BBC at half time. It’s there to be won this season and we have just thrown the opportunity away.

With Arsenal thats all they need as very tough to break down and excellent defenders and win plenty of games just by being solid and scoring via set pieces

We have been average all season.
 
Complacency both from Pep and the team.

Pep decided to gift a start to Foden who has been poor for months now and then subbed him off too late. Their attacks for both goals started after Foden gifted them the ball due to poor touches.

We had two wingers on the bench plus Marmoush. Pep said in the presser that we have to deliver more crosses in the box when Haaland is there, and we played most of the game without proper wingers.

But it would be a mistake to blame mostly Foden or Pep. The entire team was a bit slow and sloppy at times, maybe thinking about Newcastle and Madrid... That was our easiest game on paper before the international break and we failed to win it.

The first goal was hideous from the minute Foden lost the ball.

Can use those words for the majority of performances this season. We don’t deserve to be near the top of the league, never mind in a title race. It’s shit football. Proper, proper shit.

There’s nothing to it. It’s essentially hopeful football by boring the opposition to death.

Pass sideways then backwards then sideways again then backwards again. Fucking rubbish.

Frustratingly, the team that will win the league play worse football than us. How utterly depressing.

How about when a ball comes in the box he runs across his man rather than just hiding at the back post grappling

He took his goal superbly, he had to quickly adjust his body to get his left foot to that cross and score ..... and was really unlucky with that free kick near the end.

Think we missed o Reilly tonight instead of foden playing. The Haaland foden connection hasn’t worked this season. And what is it all about giving the opposition 20 mins in the 2nd half to get level.
