Nottingham Forest (H) | Sat 23rd Sept | PL | Post Match Thread

Just watched the incident again. Pity Alty didn't blow for a foul on Rodri when Gibbs pushed him over the first time. What followed MAY have been avoided.
Correct, for the barge into his back, it’s not like it was shoulder to shoulder.

There are so many discrepancies, variations and complete ignoring of some instances across PL games that if someone was to look at them all then the game would change remarkably. Five or ten pens each match for holding at corners, players sent off for diving and simulating, players booked for timewasting, and so on. Trouble is that those in charge of the game don't want any controversy - which is why it's in the shitty state it now finds itself. Football should be reffed in the same manner as rugby union. But the lily-livered whistling wankers would crumble the first time the scarlet clad bared their teeth in disagreement, and then the poor sods, were they to bite the bullet, would find that PiGMOL, the FA and the PL would collectively pull the rug from under them.

Timewasting is no different than tripping somebody. The latter, unless Anthony has the whistle, is a straightforward free kick. Why does a timewasting goalie not run the risk of a goal kick being converted to a corner if they take excessive time over it, and the same with a throwing. If yer don't take the ball behind yer head and stand on or behind the line it's a foul throw and the opposition get it. Why not do the same with players not taking it from where it went out or taking all fuckin' day over it?

It would take fans half an hour to 'clean up' the game and put in place a suitable series of sanctions for the 'cheats'.

It’s such a joy to see how RU is refereed. The thing is if Pigmol were determined to clean the game up and apply the rules of the game it would take one or at the most two rounds of fixtures. Wire them up. Apply zero tolerance to backchat. Show the decision making process like Rugby does and apply the Lotg. Carnage for a couple of weeks then we get our game back.

How can any football fan really trust what goes on between the ref and var. As you say, in rugby they announce the decision and why. This should be applied in Prem league and shown on screen how the decision was reached. That is at most grounds except rags and dippers, who cannot show replays of what they get away with.

Consistency and common sense are mutually exclusive. However, the media have always preferred those referees who “allow the game to flow” as opposed to those who apply the letter of the law.

The best example is the 1991 FA Cup Final when Paul Gascoigne was clearly in a frenzied state of mind, before committing a stupid, horrific foul, in the opening minutes
David Elleray would have deemed it an automatic red card offence, and then been slaughtered by the media for not understanding the occasion, whereas Roger Milford looked the other way and let the game continue without so much as a serious word with Gascoigne or even Tottenham’s Captain.
Two minutes later he repeated the challenge and subsequently departed on a stretcher, with serious question marks hanging over his future career.

Without much effort I can immediately recall 3-4 occasions where Anthony Taylor has tried to use common sense, before seemingly panicking and thrusting consistency when it’s far too late.
One of the worst Forest fouls on Saturday was the one that led to Alvarez’ 2nd Free Kick. However, Taylor did nothing because he’d just carded somebody else.

He did exactly the same at Anfield last season, and previous games v Tottenham and Chelsea. Let loads of fouls go unpunished until nobody’s quite sure what’s happening, and then suddenly introduce the letter of the law.

As much as I don't think Philips is really of the standard to be playing for us, especially as a starter, I wouldn't judge him too much on yesterday because he was thrown into a game after a stupid red card and it was just about trying to see the game out under pressure and at a disadvantage
I thought he did fine. People already have their minds made up on him. He's going to do great! This is his time to shine!

Carnage within a few of the fixtures - Rags, Klopp? Pep got booked on Saturday for probably drawing attention to the fact that Taylor was exhibiting the limitations that are seemingly inherent in his appearances. It isn't right, and it should be Taylor who is cautioned.
