After some thought, I conclude:

1 this is censorship. Merely saying it is not, does not change the fact.
2 the idea that you can discuss a work of art and it's context in its absence is preposterous. The call for discussion is just a fig leaf to pretend it is not censoring the work.
3 it is a political act. Art is supposed, inter alia, to challenge perceptions, but this act challenges that, saying " there are some things in art which are beyond the pail". That can never be right.
4 compare this project to the attitudes to art by the Soviet union for example, or Pol Pot, or a hundred other dictators.

Tear down statues of historical figures you dislike and justify it by holding them to modern day standards.
Attempt to ban people who hold a different opinion to your own from public speaking, label anything you don't like "hate speech".
Push for criticism or questioning of certain ideologies to be made a criminal offence, while openly supporting hatred of other groups.
Use the law to enforce the use of what you deem acceptable language and opinions.

Call other people fascist with a straight face.

First of all this and few of the other pre-raphaelite paintings in this gallery (also Tate Britain) are some of my favourite works (William Hunt anyone!!!!)

I don't get the argument that is to raise debate as you can't have a debate when you're on your own. Literally everyone is against it so the debate can't exist. Everyone just thinks you're a c**t.

great advert for the painting and gallery though so it's worked in this regard but it better go back on show next week. Imaging being a tourist coming up especially to to see this painting only for some two bit artist to deny you. I'd be livid
