I watched the Michelle documentary on Netflix yesterday and it just struck me how basically 'good' they were compared to the monster currently posing as POTUS.

He had two terms which were scandal free and which they both conducted themselves with intelligence and a good dose of old fashioned grace. I think history will be kind to him and ultimately he will be classed in the top 10 of USA presidents and not only because he was the first black american to gain the highest office. Sadly the US was not quite ready for that as the counter swing to Trumpian politics has shown.

A President is judged on his accomplishments. Obama is all the things you say, but he accomplished very little, and even less that has lasted. Most of his failure was not his fault, though some of it was.

He couldn't run another term though could he? Trump and his circus got into power because of the complete train wreck that opposed him in the presidential election, anyone else half decent would have won that election for the democrats.

I liked the bloke until he piped up interfering with Brexit.

That aside, American politics is in the toilet and it isn't going to surface any time soon.

Just because I think Obama was a prick doesnt mean I am a fan of Trump. Just because I dont like Labour I must be a Tory right? Well no you are quite quite wrong.

He left the economy in a way better state than he inherited. He stopped two conflicts in iraq and afghanistan. He made incremental improvements in healthcare but you are right in that his delivery did not match his oratory. That was pretty much down to the make up of politics during the time he was president. He admits himself that he didnt get Syria right. I dont agree that a President is only judged by his achievements - look at JFK. They are also judged on the legacy of their presidency and as I said, his will be remembered for the grace, 'they go low, we go high' nature of his office.

I guess the POTUS would have a view on something like that. His opinion hardly impacted the result so maybe you should forgive him. After all, you won.
If I remember he had a higher approval rating than Trump at the time of his handover.

I voted to remain bud, it's only after the shenanigans that I changed my mind. Selfish reasons because some of my children are from another country but those were my reasons. Obama and Americans in general can't IMO complain about foreign interference in their elections when an incumbent president tells the UK voters that if they vote to leave a trading bloc they will be put to the "Back of the queue".
