Official - City end interest in Eto'o [merged]

Obviously nobody here speaks Catalan.

A few points not already mentioned.

Masalles stated that never have they asked Barcelona for an improved contract, "Not 1 euro cent more".

He also stated that never has Eto'o asked for a €15,000,000 golden handshake.

Eto'o is very unhappy with Laporta for the "Stratospheric" comments.

Mesalles has claimed that Eto'o hasn't even discussed a potential move to City.

The thing which baffles me about this is that if he sits it out he doesnt get the payment anyway and if the thinks he will get anything like that as a signing on fee from another club he is out of his mind.

I think a token gesture his way like most people have said maybe half the money will be the easy way to resolve this

Ok that last point is complete bullshit and is absolute agent talk. City have been talking to Eto'o for more than a few weeks now, he just doesnt want it to make it look as though his agent wants to leave Barca willingly.

I can read spanish pretty well and the report of the meeting in Marca is quite interesting.

The headline says

Eto'o wants to stay at Barca but will not block his exit.

He accuses Barca of being two faced.

He has never asked for an improved contract this season.

The agent knows of City's offer and would have no problems going there if Barca agree.

They do however feel that Barca's valuation of the player is much too high given that he has only a year left on the contract.


And it is this last bit that I find interesting. Maybe they reckon City should have to pay less.

Therefore presumeambly we could pay him a signing on fee.

Either way this doesn't look too negative.

As he didnt ask for the transfer, he'll get a percentage of the transfer fee anyway.

First report i have found....

Madrid - The agent of Samuel Eto'o told the media on Tuesday that the star striker wants to stay at European champions Barcelona. Josep Maria Mesalles said "Eto'o wants to stay at Barca, but he is not going to put any obstacle in the way of the club if they want to get rid of him."

Don't get it.

Not asked for improved contract or golden handshake. Not a problem joining us if Barca don't want him. Laporta has said that our offered as been agreed. Where is the issue

Maybe he get 50% and that is why he is asking for €15M - even though the agent is saying that isn't the figure!!

I'm totally confused and just hope it doesn't drag on until 31st August........

So this isn't dead yet, that is good to know. Doubt it will be settled for ages though, can't see 5 hours being long enough to sort out the whole saga.

Fair enough, still dont believe it. They want that money, I believe spursmad on this.

I think it probably moved along as soon as his agent said he was going to have a press conference a few days ago......

I think we may well know today or early tomorrow....

isnt a plea for barce to reduce transfer fee so other clubs ie the rags,milan,inter etc come in and say " right we pay less to barce , you can have your big wages now"
