we are still in with a shout but Eto'o wants a payment that is written into his contract and Barca don't want to pay

if it truly is written into his contract then I don't see how there's even an argument?

He would only get it if he was forced out of the club, if he says he wants to stay and they push him out he gets it, Barca offered him a 2 year contract knowing he wouldn't sign, thus meaning that he didn't really want to stay and thus negating the loyalty payment. Stalemate it would seem.

easy if Eto'o want's to move he loses the cash BUT if Barca sell he gets the payment that is basically whats in the contract, it would appear

Samuel Eto'o was seen in Chester Zoo's gift shop buying an inflatable camel when he recieved a texted contract offer from Barca saying the following...

'Hi Sammy-boy dis is Juan-La, weve decided 2 offer u a new contract m8 4 2 years @ same wage as now wiv no loyalty bonus. Is dat ok? If so tb 2 my numba m8 n we'l sort it asap use cbfsms.net to send unlimited text messages to your friends'

He read the text and immediately phoned his agent from a call box (sam had no credit either). He instructed his agent to hold a press conference to tell everyone he's a blue but at that vital moment his pips went so thats why his agent is saying Samuel wants to stay.

Barca are obviously really angry about this as his agent is saying Samuel will sit out the rest of his contract. Barca want rid because they want to buy David Villa - who was seen in their club shop with the new kit on. Valencia are getting Kerry Katona's son (spelling) in return for selling Villa to Barca. Valencia originally wanted Jo but he is cup tied.

So now it's just a waiting game. Hopefully common sense will prevail, Eto'o will top up his phone and all this mess will be sorted. Peace out.

Samuel is deflating it as we speak. He's debating whether or not to put it in his hand luggage or suitcase. He's flying back to Barca to set them straight.

Or from another point of view Barca could keep it if he left. Semantics almost. But the argument is reportedly over £13mill

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

MADRID

Samuel Eto’s agent has paved the way for the striker’s move to Manchester City after hitting out at Barcelona’s handling of the summer transfer wrangle.

Josep Maria Mesalles, the Cameroon star’s representative, on Tuesday said Eto’o was happy to stay at the Nou Camp but would not stand in the way if the European champions wanted to cash in.

Mesalles angrily accused Barca of leaking stories to the media that cast Eto’o in a bad light and said: “The player wants to stay and complete the last year of his contract. If Barca don’t want him they should say so, so we can pursue the player’s future in a professional manner.

“If they have a serious offer from Manchester City, and if they want to continue with this negotiation, I don’t have a problem dealing with the English club. In theory he wanted to play in the Champions League, but if Manchester City have an offer accepted, we would be delighted to go there.

“We haven’t spoken to City but if Barca have reached an agreement it shouldn’t be that difficult to reach a deal.”

Mesalles says he had agreed to ‘work in co-operation’ to get the best for both Barcelona and his player, who has a year left to run on his current contract.

Another meeting

“On June 2, the club called a meeting and I was told by (Barca sporting director) Txiki Begiristain and (director of football) Raul Sanllehi that due to a technical decision, Samuel does not feature in the club’s plans next season. We then had another meeting and I was told once again that Samuel was not in their plans for next season.

“Guardiola said at the end of the season that he was delighted with Samuel, so I don’t know what has changed. I don’t know if everything changed in the space of an afternoon, I don’t know if they really want Samuel to stay of if they just want to make money out of him. ‘Eto’o believes that is still useful for FC Barcelona. If not I would go and be the first to ask to be transferred.”

Barca seemingly tried to avert yesterday’s press conference by offering Eto’o a two-year extension to his contract on Tuesday.

The offer came without a pay increase, in contrast to City’s offer to make the striker the best-paid player in the world with a £180,000 a week net offer.

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

So he wants a loyalty payment but Barca wont pay it, and if he comes to use he wants 10m of the 25m?

well along those lines, some people on hear suggest we pay the bonus just to get it done or agree with barca to go halves with them, but unless there is something else we dont no about this loyalty payment seems the stumbling block

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

Anyone else starting to realise how big of a signing this is. Fucking hell the guy is a world class striker. Pro evo will never be the same AGAIN! haha

In effect, but not really. The "loyalty bonus" is between SE and FCB techincally, we just pay them a fee. It's just that the fee might have to be increased to put them in a position where they are happy with the overall deal, including the loyalty bonus. Just like the Joey Barton fee going up by £300k to get it through, but with bigger numbers.

Simple, hey?!

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

this loyalty bonus hitch is no different than what we went through when SWP left us for Chelski....he did the honorable thing as we were a broke ass club and asked for the transfer so we wouldnt have to give it to him....if we accepted a transfer against his wishes he'd have gotten half the fee.

Come on Eto'o......we need a confirmation so we can buy a jersey with your name on it mate!

Re: Samuel Eto'o [merged]

question
if barrca keep eto and then he walks next season then barca get nothing and have to pay eto the full loyalty bonus this costing approx 13 million euros. now if eto was bought with a five year contract by barca then simple maths say they should knock 1/5th off the bonus so by selling him today they would get 28 million minus the bonus 10.4 milliom, 2.6 million short because he has left early, this would leave barca with 17.6 million in the bank, this has to be better than him walking next year
so to my point what is the problem?

ETO`O NOT IN BARCA PLANS - AGENT
Posted 30/06/09 21:27EmailPrintSave

Samuel Eto'o's agent is suspicious of the motives behind Barcelona's contract offer to his client and claims the Cameroon striker may yet join Manchester City this summer.

Following intense speculation and conflicting reports in the press in recent weeks, Josep Maria Mesalles called a press conference earlier today to clarify his client's situation.

In it, he revealed Barca have told him twice in recent weeks that Eto'o has no future at the club.

"We have had two meetings with the club and they have told us both times that Samuel is not in their plans for next season," he said.

Mesalles revealed his anger at claims made by Barca president Joan Laporta regarding Eto'o's apparently astronomical wage demands.

He said: "Laporta has come out several times and said that Samuel is demanding huge quantities of money, but that is absolutely false.

"We have not asked Barcelona for one cent this year and we haven't spoken to Manchester City either, so to say he is asking for all that money is completely untrue. That's why I called this press conference."

Mesalles announced plans for the press conference yesterday and received the offer of a two-year contract extension for Eto'o late last night, a deal which would see the 28-year-old remain on the same wage until 2012.

"I don't know if they made the offer because they want him to stay or because they want to make money," Mesalles added.

"They want 30 to 35 million euros from his sale and that is unrealistic - he has one year left on his contract and they are asking for too much, especially in a year when he would play the African Cup of Nations and then the World Cup in the summer."

Mesalles confirmed that City have offered 25million euros and says his client may yet sign for the Barclays Premier League club.

"Samuel is very disappointed with Barcelona," Mesalles continued.

"If we find out for sure that they don't want him, then we will do our best to find him another club and Manchester City would be a good option.

"There are only about six or seven clubs out there who could afford Samuel, but Manchester City is one and they are a serious club."

Eto'o has won three league titles and two Champions Leagues with Barcelona, and his priority would be to play in Europe's premier club competition next season, Mesalles revealed.

But he claims City's absence from Europe would not deter his client from a move to Eastlands.

"In theory he wants to play in the Champions League, but if Manchester City have an offer accepted, we would be delighted to go there," he said.

Eto'o is now on holiday with his family and is planning to return for pre-season training on July 20.

"He will arrive in Barcelona on July 19 and will be ready for the first day of training and the medical exams the next day," Mesalles said.

"Samuel is on holiday, so nothing will happen until he gets back anyway - he will speak to [Barca coach] Pep Guardiola to see where he stands and we will go from there.

"There are lots of conflicting stories, but the only opinion that matters is that of Guardiola - if he wants Samuel to stay and the contract offer is serious, we would study it with all of the affection in the world.

"Samuel still wants to stay at the club, he loves it here and has great friends here - he said that he came here to win titles but I think he would be happy here even if they hadn't won anything."
