Official Manchester City vs Hamburg Thread (2nd Leg)

Good game of City between 35min and 65min...,however the 1-1 as well as the 2-1 were wrong decision. Seems like the ref put his money on City. :P The penalty was a joke. There arent much more penaltys which are more hilarious than this one. In this case we would see hundreds of penaltys each week.
Also i dont know why the ref didnt whistle for offside at 2-1.

2 goals of wrong decision and we had the stretching match everyone expected. In every other match Dunne wouldnt play for 75mins as well...

Guess over two legs Hamburg was the better team and will face Werder Bremen in the semi final.

See you guys and especially the awesome City fans who joined Hamburg 1 week ago in the CL in a couple of years. (hopefully)

The Very frustrating thing tonight was the best chances fell to the wrong people......Richards x2 Caeceido [still dont rate hime].....BUT what a Fantrastic performance and the fans were magnificent right throiugh - makes you proud............
These ae the nights we need more of.....just a shame its unlikely we'll hit 7th spot......
The most salient thingabout tonight was how effective Robbie was in a more wide lef of centre position rather than stuck on the wing........hope Hughes utilises this more

WHat we need more than anything is a true striker......and .world class centre half [ i love Dunney but he can't be trusted anymore to not score an own goal or get sent off]........and to utilise players in their best positions
Finally - Kompany showed he is one hell of a player......even a RAG said to me when we bought him that he'd been wanting Taggart to buy him for a year now....he is solid in the tackle and always looking forward.......

Chin up lads.......weve come a long way - we are building and next season I think things will settle down and more consistency will be there.....this season has been weird.....too many injuries and too many poor fringe players being tried........

I'm gutted but proud of all of them tonight

The ball didn't even nearly reach Richards (think it was him) so it can't be given offside. The penalty I'll give you, but if you think thats hilarious you should see some of the decisions in the English lower leagues. Start here

Well, the pass had an effect on the following goal, because the defender was just able to drip off the ball without any chance to control it.

In Germany you can see something like this too. Check out the phantom goal :)

well played joe, you probably deserved it over the two legs, but i bet you were worried for a bit tonight!

i thought the penalty was wrong, and micah richards could have been considered 'active' and offside, but I think you can find it in yourself to admit we were not fortunate to score twice tonight ;)

Yeah...the bar was our friend tonight, ironically Hamburg is the team with the most hits on wood in Bundesliga... (16 times)

It was a close and tough match but i guess the "luck" was in a way a bit deserved when i think back to the game here in Hamburg where we hit the bar as well and "only" won 3-1 with chances for 2 matches and totally outclassed City.

Keep your heads up. You were one of the last 8 teams in the UEFA Cup and this year the cup was high rated with good sides. At this stage of the cup it depends also on luck and form of the day...

In each game the home side were better in the first half and dominant in the second. Caicedo's jaw-dropping miss was the chief reason this one wasn't in extra time. Well, that and Dunne's lack of self-control.

I know Hamburg are a respectable side, but City had enough of a talent edge to where they should've been able to get past them and advance to the semis. Oh well. Just the latest disappointment in an utterly disappointing season.

We didn't go through, but I haven't been this proud of my team since the derby win at OT last year, and before that, well I don't know.

The lads played their hearts out from beginning to end, especially Elano and Robinho, so the journos can fuck about the Brazilian revolt they're supposedly leading, and how they don't want to play for the team. You can all slag off Dunne, Richards, Hughes, whoever you want but I'm not going too, we went out of the competition with our heads held high and nobody can ever take that away from us.

Credit to Hamburg as well, they outclassed at home and although we were by far the better team today, we couldn't break them down and they weathered the storm. Classy opponents and fans and good luck to them, personally I hope they go on to win it.

Alot of times you learn more from a loss then a win, although we technically won today, we were shown that this team DOES have what it takes to get to the next level. They showed that they do have the heart, determination, and skill needed.

Sorry to get all mushy on ya, but this post made my heart swell.

And just to put in my two cent on MH. He is a young talented manager, (to steal a quote from FM08). He is only going to get better. I still have 100% faith in him.

Elano is pure fucking class. I'm thinking he will be a regular in the lineup for the rest of the season after this performance. I also feel that he should not be sold in the off season like some people seem to think he should be. If he was left on today, we would be celebrating victory.

Good post (in parts) but your praise of Elano flies in the face of Hughes's logic and decisions

Mind you- we did have bellamy, SWP and DeJong out - 3 of one of ouyr great players in the 1st team.

I would just personally like to thank the hamburg fans for their contribution to the fine atmosphere at tonights game and to wish them the best of luck in the next round. I also feel that the one major plus to come out of our european campaign is that our fans reputation has been enhanced by our behaviour both home and away. thank you everyone.

Phew just got home! I haven't read the thread or looked at goal highlights as yet... Surely Caceido was not offside every time?!? Was in 105 so wasn't in the best position to judge. Top atmosphere Blues and credit to the Hamburg fans for their efforts too! I thought i'd be mighty pissed at going out of the cup - but as miffed as I am we really did give it a good go, and we've exposed our lack of squad depth; spreading ourselves a little thin in the league and cups. Better luck next time huh! Can't fault anyones effort tonight, with exception of MR.

I do wonder though, is Superman actually Brazilian?

Fantastic Game, great atmosphere. City, City the best team in the land and all the world!
