Official: The Atmosphere Was '****' tonight.

These threads do my f*ckin' nut in.

Every game someone has to come on here and moan about attendances / atmosphere. I think a lot of people on this board have only started following the blues in the last couple of years or view Maine Road through rose tinted glasses. I remember countless cup games at Maine Road where it was half full and you could hear a pin drop, this is nothing new.

I've had a season ticket since i was 16. Watch approx half to two thirds of our home cup games and prob do about 8 aways a season. Not going to come up with some far fetched excuse that i was working my third job and had a 600 mile round trip and all the rest of it, cos i didn't. Tonight i just didn't fancy it. We were on Eurosport. The game wasn't that exciting and i fork out enough on city over the course of a season, thought i would watch it on telly for once. If you think that makes me less of a city fan you can f*ck right off.

I find that a lot of the people who go to these cup games go to them because they are cheaper than following city in the league. Fair enough, nothing against that, but to then come on this board and slag off fellow blues for not attending or complaining that the atmosphere doesn't match that of the league games is outrageous. And yes, if we do get to the final i would expect a fair crack at getting a ticket over someone who has just been to a handful of cup and league games.
Ha,you gave an excuse pal.....they were on Eurosport.
I didn't go cos i didn't fuckin want to,not that its anyone elses business.
Probably won't go to the group games either and the Carling cup will start for me at the quarter finals and yes,i'll want(and probably get)a ticket for the final if we get there

no wonder the rags laugh at us we go on about being a big club haha don't make me fucking laugh, last night was a fucking joke the atmosphere was shit, the attendance was shit and some on here go on about ticket prices and beer, fuck off

if you live in the northwest and you did not go last night i question your loyalty to city, it goes to show for me how many hard core fans we actually have and it looks like there are no more than 25000 of us

who gives a shit who we are playing i would go and watch city play the dog and duck if they are at home simple as that, as someone said even villa had 30000

we the fans need to change our mentality or we will always be regarded as a small club by the likes of the rags etc and stop coming out with feeble excuses of no beer, shit opposition (like you go watch the oppo any way), board could not be arsed so why should we, needs to be cheaper a fucking fiver for kids (you cant get in the cinema for that you fucking tight minged fuckers), if you come out with any of this shit you are deluding yourself and looking for excuses that are not acceptable to any real hard core blue so stop and fuck off

if you live out of town you are exempt from this rant and if you are from out of town and made it to the game last night RESPECT

let us know and put the so called real mancs are blue brigade to fucking shame, and you lot start fucking turning up at this type of game as it is easy to turn up for big games any clown can do that
if we get to the final watch the loyalists go then clambering for tickets and moaning when they don't get one letting everyone know how big a fan they are, but in reality you aren't that big are you as you did not fucking go last night, if i was city i would give them to the lads and lasses who turned up last night if we make it to the final and fuck the rest of you

Are you a teenager or just plain stupid?

How fucking dare you take the moral high ground just because you attended a game where others didn't bother?

My Dad and his mate live locally but are both approaching 70. They have season tickets and have been at games which I assume you only read about in books - the Wembley finals, the cup Winners Cup, the relegations.

They didn't go because one had a heart attack last year and the other is crippled with athritis. They took the option to watch on the telly. Big deal.

The game was effectively over and we played our reserves.

Grow up.

I had a ticket due to being in the direct debit cup scheme but couldn't go due to my leg being fucked so gave it to a mate.

The attendance was expected - but watching from the telly, all you could hear was their fans - either the mic was over the top of the South stand or they were just very very loud.

I think it's a mixture of 'waiting to be entertained, as we will win', 'the same dull songs being sung' & people just not being fucking arsed.

Where as against Liverpool, the fans felt they needed to back the team to get that win - and the team fed off that.

People might slaughter United, myself included, but their originality with songs, pisses all over ours, and has done for years.

Spot on. It shouldn't do but it really pisses me off some of the people on this board. I genuinely think they are about 12 years old and are so used to bragging to other kids in the playground about "going to a match" that they come on here and give it the big i am to blues who have been watching the blues since before they were born. Grrrrrr.

don't know what the big deal is. standard city attendance for this type of game.
nothing to see here move along

I tell what will happen in the next cpl of years if we get successful, they will force you to join the direct debit scheme if you buy a season ticket, and i for 1 (as long as they keep prices low)think it will be a good thing it will stop a half empty eastlands in the future

I think it's kids, too. It's certainly playground stuff.

It's people with no knowledge or feel for Manchester City FC.

Dave, that's an extreme example compared to most, even then, ask the question; "would/did I/they make sure I/we attended Monday night?" if the answers 'yes' then honestly why weren't those same not people there last night?

There can be no excuses for not getting tickets now - Sputs didn't sell out, Liverpool was on the border and now a home game for £10/15 with 50 points and 23k turn up.

Some will have valuable excuses - no problem, a lot just "didn't fancy it" that's all that needs to be drawn from it.

20k + not bad I suppose taking into account Monday nights match and the expence and in my case finishing work at 1pm.
On top of that I have just spent another 2 x £48 and 1 x £37 for Chelsea tickets on Weds on the City Cards and I have 4 x £28 tickets in my wallet for Sunday add fuel £10 parking this week has cost me with Mondays game over £300, it can't carry on and gates will carry on being in the region of last nights.
If we get to later stages with high profile teams involved, watch the gates v lesser prem teams struggle to fill Eastlands.
I will never knock fans who can't make it for one reason or another.
Not the end of Aug yet and we have seen over 100000 fans in Eastlands already including the Valancia match, not bad.

Well let me tell you my tale, GStar.

I don't live in Manchester any more but I had a ticket.

In the morning, my wife informed me that she needed to do a couple of hours work in the evening - she can work from home. We have 3 kids under 4 and she said "Do you mind not going?" I said "That's fine, I'll watch it on the telly". I'd have preferred to go but as it was always going to be the reserves and I felt the result was a foregone conclusion, I didn't.

A cynical man might call it credit in the bank and to a degree it was. IF she'd said that on Monday I'd have said "No chance love".

I love Manchester City as much as anyone but I don't feel duty bound to attend to prove my status as a supporter.

Half of our fans have a similar tale, judging by the attendance. Who cares? It was a low key game against low key opposition in a low key atmosphere. It was always going to be that.

I resent clowns coming on here berating other fans for not turning up for these games. I resent even more clowns who seem to think that unless you wear a City shirt and hat, stand on your seat and sing "Who;s the faggot in the pink" all game whilst sweating and talking fucking shite about a game you know nothing about, that you are somehow not as big a fan as them.

They can fuck off to be honest. Noone can question my love of City and my commitment over 30 odd years. I would have been at this game without a shadow of a doubt 10 years ago. But now I have commitments and a life outside City.

There are lots like me. That's life.
