I thought you guys were unlucky today, it was just one of those days where the ball just wouldnt go in....no need to over analyse this one

I disagree gooney,we did not adopt the best system to beat Villa,we were far too narrow and lacked urgency.

A creative pacey midfielder is a must for me,when the fullbacks weren't forcing him inside,we saw the effect Johnson had on the game,a similar player on the opposite flank would have destroyed them.
I agree that you needed more width, problem with johnson was when he beats the defender, he still have to come inside and change feet and that kept giving the Villa defender a chance to come back, or the other defenders to close the gap he created by beating the defender first. looking at him it looks like he would be better of in the other flank, but has he ever played there and why doesnt he play on the left?

Re: Dzeko & Barry Today

Freestyler you are absolutely spot on , couldnt agree more........

Re: 500+ passes not one clear shot

They defended well and Silva and particularly Tevez didn't have good games. We have quality all over the park but those two are our genuine match winners if both of them are having an off day then it is bound to make it difficult. I know "parking the bus" is probably the way to play against us but more often than not we will have the quality to win. Imo, just one of those days and certainly little to worry about in the overall scheme of things.

Re: Dzeko & Barry Today

Barry is a joke..

One of the most over rated and over paid players in the prem.

I'd like to see us try De Jong, Yaya and Silva at the tip of a central midfield 3 more regularly. I rate Barry, but he isn't the type of player we need when teams park the bus. We lack the creativity to break them down.
This will hapen more often when Balotelli returns

Re: It just wasn't our day.

Hear hear. Totally agree, we were very unlucky. Just on a side note though, when we played that defensively at home we got caned by the press, villa will be lorded as defensive heros!! It's not down to money spent as the likes of Blackpool haven't spent anything

Re: A worrying trend

unable to get to game today so watched it in the house i think that on the day to many of our players did not perform and also that the negativity from mancini today was there for all to see, it is becoming worrying that even if we do finish in the top 4 and qualify for the champions league that mancini tactically will not be able to take us any further.i personally would rather see us playing entertaining football which i know is not always possible, but today we were playing a team who had conceded goals in everyone of there last 14 games,
how long is mancini going to persist with gareth barry a player who looks to be towing a caravan! , surely mancini can see that we have better options on the bench.
i dont understand why he persists in playing adam johnson on the wrong side he got into great positions today to play early balls across the face of goal but had to turn back to get on his favoured left foot, surely balls across the face of goal would be more beneficial to our strikers who just now are feeding off scraps.

Re: Dzeko & Barry Today

Barry was villas best player today. Drives me mad that he is so one footed. DRIVES ME FOOKIN MADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

Re: Plan B please mr Mancini?

LOL at the guys moaning about the tactics. A team of our calibre cannot lose to Aston Villa under any circumstances. Perhaps if we played one forward or something I could see what you're getting at, but we put out the best team I have ever seen on paper and could not perform.

Yep nail on the head, and its one of the main reasons he doesn't get a regular game, needs to learn to cross with his right, so that he is confident enough to do it every time.

His decision making isn't the best either, often tries to get a position to shoot when there are better options. He probably frustrates me as much as walcott does you lot.
