Ha ha! Yes, definitely me. You must be good looking though ;-)Are you sure that's you ? I've been looking at this picture for years thinking that was me! Haha
I thought that. There couldn't be another insanely handsome fucker out there:)Ha ha! Yes, definitely me. You must be good looking though ;-)
That's correct. I was in the scoreboard end that night and I recall that it was by no means packed out.I was at that, and although I don't believe 39000, it wasn't rammed either. The Kippax certainly wasn't.
Good luck to anyone who can name these lads. Not sure if it's even Maine Road era.

That's not Billy Meredith, it's Ron Mael from Sparks :-)Billy Meredith far left bottom row and my nans favorite Max Woosnam in the middle with the ball, not much idea on the others without looking them up :-)
you might be right, Maybe the town wasnt big enough for the both of them? That's not Billy Meredith, it's Ron Mael from Sparks :-)

My Dad always stood in the Scoreboard End so during my early years as a Blue that's where I stood too. Made the transition to the Kippax around 1970 and remained there until The Kippax Last Stand. Yeah, the old tin plates for HT Scores was pretty common in those days. Seems a lifetime ago - which of course it pretty much is :-)Lovely to hear that — the scoreboard end! Never stood on it, unfortunately, before it was redeveloped. (I attended my first match in spring of 1968). Remember the bloke going round and putting the half-time scores up, by hanging them up on those metal squares? Of course you do. Wasn't the only ground where that was done, either. Far from it.
I think the Texaco Cup was earlier (Airdrie at Maine Road 71-72) and was then replaced by the Anglo Scottish Cup.Think Law’s last game was Texaco cup that summer (not the United relegation as often incorrectly quoted)
Take me back.Last day of the old Kippax. I'm sat in the middle with purple and white striped away kit, looking at the camera
I wouldn't argue with the published attendance of 38,787 for the Fenerbahce match and I was there. The only 63,000 crowds at Maine Road from that era I can recall were against United apart from the 1966 Cup tie against Everton. Liverpool and Everton usually had the highest attendances at Maine Road apart from United. Our first game in Europe was the home game vs Fenerbahce in 1968. Since the arrival of Joe and big Mal our attendances grew substantially and we had the odd 60k crowd. Fans were up for this tie and many were speculating what the gate figure would be and it was commonly expected that it would be another full house. It certainly looked and felt like it, there were no gaps to be seen but to everyone's surprise (those that were there) the official figure was less than 39000. Nobody believed that and I still don't either, but for once Swales couldn't be blamed as he wasn't on the Board then (I don't think).
Remember standing top of steps old Kippax with the Toast Rack in the distance, clear as anything.Seem to remember you could see the toast rack from the north stand or am I making it up
Andy Kerr was a Scot who played for us when I first started supporting the Blues. As I recall he was a skilful inside forward. That's a great photo of those times- the V-necks were something else :-).I don't know anything about A Kerr, but I recognise the exact spot (top of the left exit steps) where I celebrated when Kevin Reeves scored a last minute winner v Leeds in 1980
Just 10 games for us,signed in May gone by December back to Scotland probably home sick.Andy Kerr was a Scot who played for us when I first started supporting the Blues. As I recall he was a skilful inside forward. That's a great photo of those times- the V-necks were something else :-).
