Old Maine Road photos thread

1985.
5-1, Charlton.
I was in the Kippax, top right corner, which was the unofficial singing section of the Kippax.
I fucking loved it up there.
The best days of my life as a City fan.
I was 17 then.

Look how full the Kippax is despite the pitch being flooded with people.

I too was in the kippax, got my dad to take some photos from the NS of the invasion.....can I find them?

I've moved house since he died and I can only assume they were cleared out in error when he passed, always thought they were at mine.

I was up in the right hand side with the singers, too. Great day. Took a rag mate with me. He fucked off early...

The quiet but gradually building buzz and anticipation to today's pyrotechnics, DJs, shouting presenters, warnings you don't get or need anywhere else, the servile pushing of whatever issue is unnecessarily being promoted, the over stewarding. In short, it's a shit experience now. Imagine if we weren't any good.

I'd just turned 18. Remember it being really rammed in the Kippax and very hot in there. I went full Geordie and took off my t-shirt it was that hot.

I was 16 and younger brother was getting crushed against the wall at front of singing section so got moved to away end at corner of Kippax

Charlton fans were late due to an incident on their way to ground

The looks on their faces when they entered the stand full of City teenagers and younger fans

Nothing like parking the car in Moss Side on matchday and being swarmed by urchins offering to "mind your car", safe in the knowledge it was essentially paying protection racket money to primary school kids. I have heard more than a few stories of people who didn't pay and came back to cars more beaten up than the car in the bonus level of the Street Fighter 2 arcade. Once met a guy who said he took his Rottweiler to the game and left it in the backseat. When the kids came he said "My dog will take care of the car", to which the kid said "Does your dog know how to put out fires?"
