I think he deserves an opportunity playing in Dinho's role,he quite clearly is very capable there and looking at the footage last night not a million miles off a player we are reportedly looking to spend 75m on.
For once, you are right :p

Such a great footballer. Love the lad, hope Pep sees the value in having him here for the long term. He's gonna turn out to be a Rolls Royce.

He’s a lovely, lovely player. Typical Pep player, can play about 6 different midfield positions in different systems, fill in in defence too, and isn’t a dickhead.

I’d love to see him get a proper chance.

I agree, his game with Ukraine looked VERY similar to De Jong.

If anything else, I'd rather Pep just bring back Angelino and have Delph and Zinchenko play the DM role, Delph has proven he can do it and I'm certain Zinchenko is similar to De Jong in fulfilling that role.

That being said, getting De Jong is still fantastic, I'd just prefer us to be wiser and for Pep to test our players in certain positions way faster than he has.

He's taken so long to test Delph at DM when it was obvious he could do the role there, Delph is fantastic on the ball (never loses it) and has excellent passing and movement).

Noticing the commentators pronounce his name ZEEnchenka. The stress on the first syllable and the final o me like an a (which it would be in Russian, now I come to think of it).
But more importantly, what a great performance

It's a little bit sad that Pep has never trusted him with midfield duties.

Isn't the position in question the DM? For which we failed to get Jorginho and now are looking elsewhere for alternatives? Give him a chance, I think he'd surprise quite a few...

Sorry my bad as I wasn't thinking about him for the DM position .

You may be right although I think we are going full on for de Jong .

I really think that Pep looks at the defence more than people like to think. I think that Zinchenko has better ball control and passing than even Dinho. The thing is that we will lose the ball from time to time and have the opposition counter on us. That will happen. We all know Zinc is not the best defender when forced to, but I think Pep lives with that from our leftback. They are more important what they bring going forward and he'll have the 2 CB's along with Walker and Dinho be in positions to defend when we are in the final third and lose the ball. That's why I think he prefers Stones or Delph at the DM from time to time instead. There are times when Dinho has to slot into one of the CB's spot when they go forward as well. When Zinchenko plays at LB he's basically a left sided midfielder anyway.

Exposed defensively tonight both positionally and as a result of his lack of pace. Wish he'd play more forward passes; two of his best passes tonight came with his right foot!

Most disappointing today was that he was slow and poor in possession.

I don't care about him defending at LB, it's not great but whatever he's a last resort. However, he's a midfielder and today he was incredibly slow to play the ball forwards, took too many touches and hesitated so often. It killed our attacking momentum, lead to us losing the ball several times and didn't help out Fernandinho defensively as a midfielder either.
