Which is pretty crazy isn't it?

It's like playing Jorginho at LB and being upset that his defending isn't good enough but his passing is clearly a level above.

Delph can definitely play DM, but if you have Delph and Zinchenko it's crazy not to play Delph LB and Zin DM.
That's what I thought too. But didn't wanna argue too much ;)

So you agree with the facts of my claim but think I was being silly. Ok

As for the bolded, agreed. But failure to stop a cross from a central position isn't a mistake. He went out towards Francis but the cross got past him. Shit happens.

Just like Ederson was correctly positioned, put in a good dive, but couldn't keep the ball out. This doesn't mean Ederson made a mistake, does it?
At that level of play, not cutting off his angles or closing him down in that position goes down as a mistake. He was the closest man and should've made that more difficult. Blame it on his marking and a lack of awareness for just how tight he needs to be in those situations but not acceptable for a man to be that free just outside the box. I am sure it is something pep will point out to him in video analysis. He is inexperienced with his defensive duties but doesn't to me look incapable.

He did close him.down. A cross from the to of the key is extremely hard to cut off. There are no angle or by-lines helping you. You can front your goal and that's it. There is still going to be about 60% of the box to aim at.

What people are suggesting here is that Zinchencko should rush in so he is so close that Francis can't get off the cross at all. Its simply not a reasonable expectation.

What I am suggesting is not that he rush in on Francis but that Francis is never left so alone in the first place. Not in that position. Zin wasn't on anyone else. He should have been tighter. That cross was a bit of gift to them. He had time to put it on a plate

*watched it again and I am being a little hyper-critical. perhaps he is being coached to keep shape in that situation. regardless, a goal resulted and i am sure they will look at it in video. i like zin at left back.

Nifty player. Played in 2 beautiful passes that only a few others in the squad could.

But, he's just not LB and I'm not sure he ever will be.

It was right in front of us. Fraser had a lot of time with no pressure to make that cross. Mini Kev could at least of pressed and made the angle more difficult.

Throwing a fact into a paragraph full of ridiculous hyperbole is easily dismissed. I gave you the salient point, but you persisted. Sad.

He doesn’t get close enough to the crosser because if he does he is very vulnerable to being beaten for pace. We really need someone doubling up with him when the opposition are attacking.

Having said that he put in a lovely ball for the first goal and a super cross that Jesus was inches from.

Delph played well when he came on though and should start at LB for me.
