Cancelo will still play left back some games, depending on the game and how Pep wants to play he isn't going to just be Walkers back up.
Selling Cancelo would have been my preference,as brilliant as he is,he is also something of a square peg.
Bringing in a specialist left back will only complicate that.

But again Ake isn’t a left back? It’s ridiculous we don’t have one mate?

Cancelo mate.

I think the plan for next season is/was to play Cancelo more often at RB and to use the new FB at LB. Now, if we keep Zinch, we may change the plan. Cancelo stays our main LB and we are a bit light at RB.

I'd be happy to have Walker, Cancelo and Cucu as our main FB options, plus Stones at RB and Ake at LB as 3rd choice. But if we don't sell Zinch, then a quality new FB may be needed indeed. He will cost over 20m. We have to decide whether it's better to sell Zinch for 30m and buy Cucu for 50m, or it's better to keep Zinch and invest 30-40m in a new FB, who may not be as good as Cucu, though...

Would be nice to get an overlapping actual LB and shouldn't be dependent on Zinchenko staying or going. We have squad space, there are more than enough competitions for minutes and there's a fucking World Cup in the middle of the season. Portugal, England, Spain, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands & Argentina will all likely play quite a few games - it makes no sense to go with a smaller squad next season.

I don't see that, I think there are games we can play with Walker right and Cancelos abilty to come inside will be used, others when Cancelo can play right and a new left back can play staying wide and overlapping. Best of both worlds for me.

I suspect this is purely a case of City trying to shift the public narrative in our negotiations with Brighton from us having an acute need for Cucurella as we’ve got no LB anymore, to us being a bit more relaxed about the deal.

And Zin stays, we’re just as happy to go with what we’ve got.

Could be wrong, but I think we can safely assume he’s all but gone given all the noise over the last few days.

I still don't understand why we're not in for a right-back instead. Cancelo and Zinchenko is just fine on the left, we need proper back-up for Walker because Cancelo's useless on the right.

The only issue with this is now we've got an out&out striker in Haaland our style of play would suit a left footer at lb with his ability to whip in early crosses. The problem with cancelo at lb is that he will always cut back in on his favored right foot and delay things.

It wasn't a problem last season as we were more about build up play in the final third. I think we could see a shift in the way we play this year and be more direct.

Just something to think about.
