i remember us playing QPR at home and clive allen scored our only goal in a 1-0 win but the only thing that sticks in my mind was allen running to keep the ball in near the corner of the main stand and the north stand and somehow doing a 360 and ending up on his arse and being down for a good few minutes..
just to add at the time of us signing him,a player who two years previous had scored 49 goals in a season,i was buzzing at him being in the city shirt but alas we managed to make him look a twat...

Remember watching city reserves at Rotherham one wet tues night..Allen was not flavour of the month with Kendall/or Reid at the time, and was playing with the kids.
Sat in the Millmoor main stand with a load of stero-typical Yorkshireman..lots of old boys with their bovril and flat-caps.
As in most reserve games, you could hear every word that the players shouted as the crowd was a bit thin on the ground.
The ball went out for a throw-in and both teams contested the throw.Linesman froze and looked at the ref.. The ref gave it to Rotherham.
Allen, just in front of me shouted in a loud cockney accent.." Facking ,ell ref..ow the fack could you see that??!!"
Old millmoor flat cap shouted back in broad yorkshire accent.." Get on with game lad..he,s got better eyes than thee"
it was a bit sad seeing a 49-goals-in a-season striker being barracked by rotherham flat-caps-but very very funny at the time.

Quinn did okay in his place to be fair.
We couldn't really play Quinn as Centre Forward, White as inside forward and Allen. Heath was more of a supporting player.
We were top 5 at the time, one of the best clubs in the country.
We beat Burnley the round before too....

I've always felt that Clive Allen 'got' our club and his comments about us when he used to appear on Soccer Saturday would certainly support that view.

yeah, we were a damn good side at the time.Burnley away in the previous round was scary.
At the end of the day no one can really argue with allen not being 1st choice- he was dropped at,everton away in Kendalls 1st match, and we picked up a valuable point at Goodison, a rare event in those days..Kendall had his ideas about what a striker had to do to fit into his teams...and closing defenders down and working the channels wasn,t really allens strong point.
i actually forgot, as a previous poster has said, that Oldfield only played in the 5-1 cos Allen was injured..wonder how we,d have got on that day without his pace and movement dragging pallister etc all over the shop.
