Similar ferry story, went to Spain for the 82 World Cup on a 3 week trip but the violence from the Argentinian and Spanish fans against the English was unbearable, everywhere we went we were getting knives pulled on us or getting tear gassed, so me and a mate decided to get a ferry from Barcelona to Majorca for a week to get away from itBimboBob said:Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi.
I remember sitting on a ferry, just leaving Portsmouth heading for Cherbourg, watching the docks slowly disappear whilst this song was on my walkman. I was about to bugger off for a few weeks, which turned into a year and a bit, back packing around Europe and I felt the songs lyrics captured the moment.

Without going into too much detail I was 17 and I played it one night when I was, with hindsight, at a crossroads in my life.
Completely turned my life around.

Grew up on that cack.
One song which changed my life was Emperor - Curse you all men! From an Earache label sampler back in the 90s which I picked up for about £3. This was the moment I found true extreme metal from my previous years of listening to punk and new wave.
