Open arms for new fans !

Here we go again. Every six months, some idiot has to mention that anyone who wasn't born on Maine Rd when City were top of the league and went to every away match in Janurary when we were in the third tier isn't a "true" Blue. And that unless they pass some kind of litmus test, they're either plastic or a rag or worse.

What these tiny minded people forget is that without most of those who they dismiss as real fans, the club would not be about to win the league for the first time in eons. Does this litmus test apply to players (I guess we had better tell Vinny he's not welcome as a fan)? How about the manager whose name is chanted every week? And what about the owner, is he not welcome to the club either since he's not from Manchester and hes only ever been to one match? And i had better tell my kids that despite them being dressed in blue since the day they were born, wearing the kit to every practice, and sticking it to every rag they come across, since they have never set foot in Manchester, they aren't worthy?

Watching Maradonna singing NaNa...City yesterday brought tears to my eyes. It said so much about how far we've come, and for those of us that have been around since the last time we won the title, it does mean that much more to see us be successful. But that doesn't mean anyone else should be belittled or deprived of sharing the absolute joy that we are feeling now. I welcome Maradonna, a 3 year old in Timbuktu, or a 50 year old rugby fan who never watched a football match until yesterday. They are all worthy as long as they stand up and be counted.

The pride I feel right now grows with every match, every time I see the joy on my kids' faces when we score, and even watching some teenage kid wearing a new City track suit top because she likes the colour. The world is turning a little more blue each day and a little less red.

Welcome one, welcome all.

i am irish and i am a city supporter for nearly 40 years.we have 2 season cards which we renew every year instead of having a sun holiday. i have only missed 2 home games this season sadly 1 of them was last night and i gave our tickets to 2 "manchester" blues at face value. i have never been to an away game but every home game is an away game to me. if i go on a day trip it takes 22 hours other games are an overnight hotel stay and flights for every game.our jerseys are bought in the city shop and worn with pride in manchester and in ireland where there are many city supporters.we are spending a lot of money in manchester and in the club where there have been many irish players through the years that we are very proud of and it saddens me to be told we are not welcome at the club that we love every bit as much as the rest of ye from manchester.we have loved every game at maine road and eastlands/etihad and will be there on may 13th to hopefully see OUR team win the title.

Well Said

dont you mean your a "fan" of sporting teams in USA etc...

No. Some of them I feel stronger about than others, but I would classify myself as a supporter of these clubs.

Put it this way, compare your commitment and strength of feeling towards City with your commitment and feeling towards these other, far away teams. Can you honestly say that they are equal? And if not, why not? I would suggest that if the answer is no the reason is because the reality of being a 'fan' of City and a 'fan' of the far away teams is very, very different.

Yet I am not from Manchester (or England) and didnt attend my first match until my early 20's.

Like many new blues, I fell in love with the club, and I can't imagine the emotion I felt on Monday night was lacking in any way because of it.

I couldn't care less if some twats in America wear our shirts and support us just as long as they don't get anywhere near COMS/Etihad

why though? if I ever do get to a city match I will sing until I go into a lung-related coma.

You are exactly the type of fan we welcome and need.

The sadness in this post is the very reason I started this thread, we cannot let ANY City fans feel this way, it's detrimental to the club and goes against what I think the club is doing #Together, in my opinion it's borderline racism too, we are all City fans and the more success we have on and off the pitch the more certain sections of the press will be out to get us, lets not give it to them on a plate, lets give the owner(s) a reason to extend the stadium i.e. filling it up week in week out, there is no worse sight for me than switching on the tv for a City game and seeing loads of empty seats.

Manchester City is a family club ALL WELCOME !!

Personally I've been through hell the last few years (mainly due to the fans at my previous club being a bunch of lying, legacy destroying hypocrites) and saw them go from title challengers to relegated in less than 2 years. So I can identify with some things like seeing lower division football. Its people who switch from one top club to another every 3 or 4 years who are the type of fans to avoid. I only switched after hitting rock bottom and clearing my conscience. There's no other club I'm interested in and my respect for City fans has been long standing and genuine. I've never respected Liverpool or Leeds fans the same way either when they were challenging or now.

So unless City fans become a bunch of lying, United loving hypocrites like the fans at my previous club I'm not going anywhere.

Won't deny my hatred of United was a big reason for coming here. Infact it was the 6-1 game that prompted it. My hatred for them is as legitimate as any City fan feels. Infact when I started supporting my previous club they used to chant "we only hate Man United" which many of them pathetically deny now.

Wanted to win for City on Monday night though not just because of my hatred for United. I'm not a robot and there was nothing false about my celebration on Monday night. Plus I'l be moving to Manchester soon (granted its not entirely for football reasons) and will be going to a lot more matches. I can't get a ticket for the QPR game but I WILL be in Manchester that day and as close to the Etihad as possible. Hopefully I'll be able to get into the stadium after the final whistle (if they open the doors I doubt anyone will be leaving early if there's a title to celebrate)

I literally hated football a year ago. Its only thanks to this club that things are different now. So where else would I go?

Oh and if it was pure glory hunting I would have had the common sense to come here 4 years ago. Could tell how serious Sheik Mansour was then though success was possibly delayed by kindly giving the previous manager a lot longer than he deserved.

There's going to be a hell of a lot worse than me coming to the Etihad in upcoming years. Would people rather have someone like me or a former Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal fan who supports a new club every 2 years.

expand the stadium, have cheaper areas for the locals with a certain amount of loyalty points, then have the corporate sections and what not for the tourists.

we need them to progress, it doesn't have to be like the rags.

-- Wed May 02, 2012 7:32 am --
