i am irish and i am a city supporter for nearly 40 years.we have 2 season cards which we renew every year instead of having a sun holiday. i have only missed 2 home games this season sadly 1 of them was last night and i gave our tickets to 2 "manchester" blues at face value. i have never been to an away game but every home game is an away game to me. if i go on a day trip it takes 22 hours other games are an overnight hotel stay and flights for every game.our jerseys are bought in the city shop and worn with pride in manchester and in ireland where there are many city supporters.we are spending a lot of money in manchester and in the club where there have been many irish players through the years that we are very proud of and it saddens me to be told we are not welcome at the club that we love every bit as much as the rest of ye from manchester.we have loved every game at maine road and eastlands/etihad and will be there on may 13th to hopefully see OUR team win the title.

brilliant post.

Here we go again. Every six months, some idiot has to mention that anyone who wasn't born on Maine Rd when City were top of the league and went to every away match in Janurary when we were in the third tier isn't a "true" Blue. And that unless they pass some kind of litmus test, they're either plastic or a rag or worse.

What these tiny minded people forget is that without most of those who they dismiss as real fans, the club would not be about to win the league for the first time in eons. Does this litmus test apply to players (I guess we had better tell Vinny he's not welcome as a fan)? How about the manager whose name is chanted every week? And what about the owner, is he not welcome to the club either since he's not from Manchester and hes only ever been to one match? And i had better tell my kids that despite them being dressed in blue since the day they were born, wearing the kit to every practice, and sticking it to every rag they come across, since they have never set foot in Manchester, they aren't worthy?

Watching Maradonna singing NaNa...City yesterday brought tears to my eyes. It said so much about how far we've come, and for those of us that have been around since the last time we won the title, it does mean that much more to see us be successful. But that doesn't mean anyone else should be belittled or deprived of sharing the absolute joy that we are feeling now. I welcome Maradonna, a 3 year old in Timbuktu, or a 50 year old rugby fan who never watched a football match until yesterday. They are all worthy as long as they stand up and be counted.

The pride I feel right now grows with every match, every time I see the joy on my kids' faces when we score, and even watching some teenage kid wearing a new City track suit top because she likes the colour. The world is turning a little more blue each day and a little less red.

Welcome one, welcome all.

and again.

these are proper proper fans, fans that if time and money were available would be in the stands singing their heart out. i have said on here for many years how lucky and privelidge we mancs are to be able to see our beloved blues in the flesh. i spoke to scorer yesterday, he got home at 4 am after the derby, then up for work at maybe 7-30 ish. then you read about the irish blues that take 2/3 days to get to a game and back. not only are far away blues welcome they are to be applauded for the time, effort and money they put in.

respect.

ps.

dont for one minute mix these fans up with day trippers and tourists, big big difference.

You surely think that about City owner and chairman?

Fucking moron...
That's jrb for you. A ridiculous comment to make and not at all funny.

However, I can't quite understand why anyone would go to watch a City match dressed like that. They're there to support City, not the UAE. I wouldn't go to watch Al Jazeera whilst dressed as a Beefeater and waving a Union Jack around like a div as it would have no relevance whatsoever to the reason I was there.

I can only imagine JMA died a little inside when he saw that photo as it rolls two of his pet hates - flags and tourists - all into one!!

But not for rags swaping teams cos they're coming.

But they're not really Rags. They are football nomads, itinerant travellers from one club to another who clear off after their chosen team loses two games. Every successful team will have them.

I welcome anyone who is here for, not for the long haul, but the lifetime haul!

American here, been a fan since around '02. This is extremely offensive. You are entitled to your opinion and that's fine, but wow. I am going to COMS (the etihad), as an american. I have had to sit alone for years, by myself, cheer by myself, drink by myself, be sad by myself. Watch the 8-1 by myself, watch almost every game over the last 10 years BY MYSELF. I am not looking for a pity party though. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into when this club chose me and I will be damned to let you ruin my first experience. I know not everyone is like you, I have met some amazing people from Manchester on here and in person, that I shared great banter with, and they came out knowing I have been a fan for years. So when it comes time and I have the thousands of dollars saved to travel and pay to see the team I love, and I get my first experience in Manchester, do us both a favor and ignore me. Now if you want to get to know me, let's meet, and I'll buy you a pint or two, just don't be so quick to judge the new fans, some of them might now be so new...
I only have a problem with these new fans that we attract that didn't even know that we existed before the takeover, I have no problem whatsoever with fans who live abroad and don't attend games just as long as they are true fans and would still support us even if we lost all of our money.
And I sincerely apologise if I have caused you any offence

Decent of you to apologise, but regards the content of your post, you are still wrong.

You have to face facts that to be one of the world's very top teams you need to have income comparable to that of the world's other very top teams. This means attracting as many fans globally as you can.

In your dream head, these are all genuine would-be Mancunians who happen to live in Vietnam but nevertheless fell in love with City years ago when they saw us lose at Brighton.

In the real world, these people had never heard of us, and couldn't have given a shit if they did. Hell, half of them haven't heard of Manchester, or England even.

But we need them as new fans, simple as.

You might want it different mate, but you aint making the rules and the new order is the way it's going to be. ADUG haven't bought us for the indulgence of a few hard core mancunians. Suck it up and deal with it.

why is it so wrong to like a team that you think plays nicely if you are not from manchester?

Im not from Manchester and i picked a team that was dog shit and suffered nothing but misery for 20 years, it's all paying off nicely now though.

Spot on, my parents are Irish , I was born there and came over to manchester aged 6 months been a blue for 45 years . I have family back in Ireland who have supported city for as long if not longer than me. True city fans don't have to be from manchester

I don't have a problem with any new fans who support the club.

The only people who do are those who nervously look at their 3 loyalty points, and know that they'll never get a cup final ticket because they never bothered before

Welcome to all the more recent fans, you have repented your sins and have now seen the blue light....I for one don't care how long you have supported us or how long you stick around for. You are lucky to be able to choose your team, where as most of us were born blue....welcome and enjoy....you've made the right choice.
