brilliant post.
MJ said:Here we go again. Every six months, some idiot has to mention that anyone who wasn't born on Maine Rd when City were top of the league and went to every away match in Janurary when we were in the third tier isn't a "true" Blue. And that unless they pass some kind of litmus test, they're either plastic or a rag or worse.
What these tiny minded people forget is that without most of those who they dismiss as real fans, the club would not be about to win the league for the first time in eons. Does this litmus test apply to players (I guess we had better tell Vinny he's not welcome as a fan)? How about the manager whose name is chanted every week? And what about the owner, is he not welcome to the club either since he's not from Manchester and hes only ever been to one match? And i had better tell my kids that despite them being dressed in blue since the day they were born, wearing the kit to every practice, and sticking it to every rag they come across, since they have never set foot in Manchester, they aren't worthy?
Watching Maradonna singing NaNa...City yesterday brought tears to my eyes. It said so much about how far we've come, and for those of us that have been around since the last time we won the title, it does mean that much more to see us be successful. But that doesn't mean anyone else should be belittled or deprived of sharing the absolute joy that we are feeling now. I welcome Maradonna, a 3 year old in Timbuktu, or a 50 year old rugby fan who never watched a football match until yesterday. They are all worthy as long as they stand up and be counted.
The pride I feel right now grows with every match, every time I see the joy on my kids' faces when we score, and even watching some teenage kid wearing a new City track suit top because she likes the colour. The world is turning a little more blue each day and a little less red.
Welcome one, welcome all.
and again.
these are proper proper fans, fans that if time and money were available would be in the stands singing their heart out. i have said on here for many years how lucky and privelidge we mancs are to be able to see our beloved blues in the flesh. i spoke to scorer yesterday, he got home at 4 am after the derby, then up for work at maybe 7-30 ish. then you read about the irish blues that take 2/3 days to get to a game and back. not only are far away blues welcome they are to be applauded for the time, effort and money they put in.
respect.
ps.
dont for one minute mix these fans up with day trippers and tourists, big big difference.
