Opening ceremony

I was there last night and have to say it was the best £20.12 I've ever spent. The organisation was amazing, every single participant knew exactly what they were doing and when. Apart from the theatrics it was how well rehearsed the thousands of people taking part were that blew me away.

And to climax to Pink Floyd and finish with a rendition of Na, Na, Na, Na City, well who could ask for more.

What a great show makes me proud to be British

If you hadn't enjoyed it would you have been ashamed to be British?

-- Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:33 am --

To be honest, I'm not sure Paul McCartney or Muhammed Ali knew exactly what they were doing.

Oui.

Why do the announcers speak French first?

That's because French and English are the two official Olympic languages. Remember, the modern Games were founded by Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin.

If not for him, there would be no Olympics. But even if it is a requirement by the IOC that the first language should be French, it does seem to add one more confusing element to the mix.

Because the Olympic Movement and the International Olympic Committee were formed by Baron Pierre De Coubertin in Paris in 1894.
I think they always do it,just like the Greeks always lead the parade.
And so my missus could understand what was going on.

I would hazard a guess that they were a bunch of land grabbing bastards nearly as much as us in the past. Homage to colonialism

I thought I'd tuned in to a live version of The Hobbit.

Some bits could have been dropped but overall it was fantastic. Loved the bit when the rings were lifted and the cauldron was spectacular as well.

Also loved all the British humour, like playing the Dambusters theme and Enola Gay to piss off the Krauts and the Japs. Did we get anything in that pissed off the Argies as well? Plus we missed an opportunity by not bombing the Afghan contingent. Also shame the boat carrying Beckham didn't sink.

Couldn't be on here last night but this thread has been brilliant. Had me laughing all morning.
