Operation: DESTABILIZE

This is a natural progression from where we have come from and where we currently are. I would suggest the top players we have signed to date, are all tier 2 players.

Robinho was a tier 2 close to tier 1 player when we signed him.
Yaya is a tier 2 player.
Tevez when we signed him was a tier 2 player.
Silva 2 close to 1
Balo tier 2.
Barry tier 3-2
Millner 3-2

The tier 1 players are

Messi, Ronaldo, Casillas, Xavi, Rooney (it could be argued Tevez is now close to this group). But Rooney is a tier 1 player, and is a better player than Tevez. Not on current form, but in terms of natural ability, he is a better player than Tevez. Tevez is exceptional, has a great work ethic, his goal ratio for City has been sensational, but Rooney on form, is just slightly better. Better all round. Tevez is City's superstar. But Rooney is the superstar at a club which has won far more trophies than us in the last 20 years and whose European pedigree is far superior. Add to that, he is Englands superstar.

So us being potentially interested in him, and him potentially coming to City, is for me, our first real tier 1 signing. This would be the signing which I feel, would really set the context for us to go and get other tier 1 players in the future (should we be able to with the new rules etc)

Not sure I understand your rationale for tier qualification, classiying something as subjective as player ability is always divisive, but I would say in simpler terms that he would be our most high profile signing if he came. You are clearly an admirer of the player, I unfortunately am not and don't think he is in the same class as Messi but on his day I agree he is a 'little' better than Tevez (on his day), but not by much.

I did sound like Gary Cook a little. I'm referring to tiers in the sense of how the club, might build a portfolio, or how the media construct these ideas. I do agree that its more complex. Because when you say his name next to Messi, I completely agree. I rate Messi in the same bracket as Zidane, Maradona etc. Whilst I wouldn't put Rooney with those. So perhaps they are all tier two players apart from Messi.

Destabilisation is, I believe, part of the plan our board have had in place for some time now. We have definately tapped him up here, (Nobody will ever prove it), but the beauty of all this is the guile of City's timing; Baconface HAD to make his statement yesterday, if he had'nt we would have instructed Rooney to cough which would have destroyed the Rags credibility even more.
Ferguson now, a quarter of the season gone, has the ball-ache of Rooney still on their books and won't play him for obvious reasons, so cites 'ankle' injury to deflect criticism.
If he comes and I for one think it's a certainty, his form will miraculously improve and Utd will start their long slow decline. If he does'nt, where will he go? Real? His tart won't have that, she has her career over here set out, plus the pair of them are not overly endowed with grey matter, and would not settle somewhere 'Foreign.' Chelsea are the only other possibility but the Sheik pays what Abramovic has to the palace cleaners, and Rooney is forever the greedy twat, being jealous to death of Tranny's deal ever since he bailed out. Whatever happens I for one am glad we have the people at the top with the acumen to engineer all this.
The rags are fucked. Up, down and sideways. I had only just recovered from fits of hysterics after watching the red dippers plummet then we get even more good tidings and now my fucking sides are aching. Please Cookey, don't tell me we any more good news for at least 6 months. I'm going to end up in hospital having botox injected all around my gob to remove the grin.

What I don't understand is the notion that this signing will be a huge risk. I just don't see that at all.

I think there are certain risks with him, as there are with any player. If bacon face can't keep him on track then I do have a worry that he's gonna continue to stray in the coming years and that he won't reach the peaks of last season again. But if we're riding high and we were to pick up an in form prozzy shagger in Jan then we'll be a very good bet for the title this year and favourites for it next year considering the age of chelsea's squad and our new batch having a season udner their belts to settle

I've no qualms with it 'not feeling right'. Although it might not feel rite at first, I'm pretty sure that within 10 mins of his debut, or even his first comments in the press, everyone will soon be onside and pulling in the right direction. I can quite happily enjoy rubbing it in the red fuckers faces whilst they spit their dummies out until it does feel right, though you can fucking bet that I'll be ramming it down their throats just as much afterwards. I haven't put up with their arrogant snidey shit for a few decades not to fucking unleash a whole universe of shit on them now that the unthinkable has happened and we might be back in business. I am going to be one unbearable bertie bitter blue **** for a fucking long time to get this out of my system, you better believe it

I know, I know, another thread about him but hear me out because a lot of decent posts from people are getting buried in a sea of shite, so please give me a minute.

Why don't some of you just lighten up and enjoy the ride at the moment?

If we get him, there is more chance of him helping us win the league than fucking it up (comparisons with Marsh are laughable, Rooney is not , and never has been a 'luxury' player), and if we do get him we are taking one of our rivals for the League's best player and throwing them into even more turmoil. It doesn't matter that it's United, we are weakening a rival significantly and possibly directly influencing the loss of their best manager in history. That's all you need to think of.

There's still this train of thought amongst the old guard in football that "There's only one way after leaving Man United and that's down"; well this is a move that can truly debunk that myth.

As Tolmie rightly posted the other day, "We're trying to win the Champions League, not just qualify for it!". Well I'd like to add to that, the aim is to surpass United's European Cup haul in the next 20 years and if Rooney is part of that then he will no longer be synonymous with United, he will be synonymous with us forever.

If someone says it just doesn't "feel" right then I can't argue with that as it's a personal preference. What I don't understand is the notion that this signing will be a huge risk. I just don't see that at all. Robinho was a huge risk, a player with Rooney's proven track record in the Premiership will not be. He is 24 and out of form, but we now know he simply doesn't want to play for United anymore and never has done this season. Hardly a coincidence and this transfer talk behind the scenes may well have affected his World Cup form as well. He could hit the ground running for us after the weight off his shoulders has been lifted.

Finally, in regard to the 'wind-up' opportunities...I don't see the problem at all. Those lot have won without dignity and class for the 34 years I have been on God's earth and if we aren't allowed to gloat about their 'bad fortune' at the moment then I don't know what the world's coming to. I was watching the telly this morning and saw the local radio presenter from 'Red Wednesday' being interviewed. When Chris Hollins asked him, "Would he go to City?" his depsair was clear for all to see and after a pause he said, "I really hope not" but then he composed himself and went into the generic "Well he's played for Manchester United so there's only two clubs on the planet he can go to and that's Barcelona and Real Madrid." It's at times like that I go from being relaxed about the whole situation to thinking, "You know what. Fucking come on in Wayne. Be a part of our first Premiership winning team and the start of an Empire at City. Let's show these fuckers we mean business."

Sorry about that, I feel better now though.

I think this is a great post. Watching the news lat night my Mrs quoted me several times "Rooney is shite". I will openly admit I will gloat at the red bastards (see my facebook page Invisible Man - poster for all to see)

As the cliche goes you don't become a bad player over night. Robhino is mentioned here. Bad player? Why the hell were AC Milan interested in him then?

Rooney and Tevez up front would an unimaginable combination, at least it was, and not it is pheasable.

Think back to Van Nistelrooy, Cole, Yorke, Teddy, Solskjaer. I didn't think we would see United match that attacking ammo again. But you can only really (most of the time) have two of them playing and Rooney and tevez would get the nod over any of them in my book.

A twist to my post...If he can come to City he can go to Anfield, and I wouldn't rule out a Torres/Rooney swap

Rooney to the dippers?Out of the frying pan, into the fire springs to mind.
And would Torres go to another club that promises the earth but is actually now living entirely on fables, reputation and "istree?"

Rooney would never go to Liverpool.

Torres would never go to United.

But I totally agree he would be a risk-free signing. You could argue that he could drive Tevez away I suppose, but I dont believe we should make decisions on that basis.

Still an upgrade.

The other factor is that by Rooney coming to City puts us on a massive Global scale, I know we are rich but him signing for us is THE big signing we have been waiting for, ok KAKA would have been as big but this would shake football to it's core. A global superstar switches allegiances!! This will lead to every team who has a Tier 1 player shitting themselves, come next summer we would be the only team to go to, so we wouldn't have to offer the earth they would want too come. Also the Shiekh may have his eye on this and think get him no matter what, shirt sales etc would rocket bringing more income, financially it's a no-brainer I believe.

lets hope that stoke really get stuck in to them on sunday. maybe iinjure scholes and get a draw. if we win and united drop any points at all then things are looking quite pretty.
