bobbyowenquiff said:Great post. Arsenal used to have a brilliant fanbase in the days of the North Bank. It was a great away trip and City fans who went there were welcomed which was never the case at Spurs. There are thousands of Arsenal fans who have been priced out of watching their club and in some cases they have even been priced out of the area which is much gentrified now compared to 30 years ago. Some of Arsenal's new fans are obnoxious and behave like rags but you can't stereotype them all like that. The key thing for us is that we must, at all costs, try to retain our roots. So far our owners have shown an understanding of City's traditional community fanbase-the total opposite of Arsenal's owners. Fans of all colours must stick together on ticket prices. If we don't we will all be shafted.Holloway Harry said:Alright chaps. I expect you are getting quite a few of us looking oh here today. I thought I'd put my 2 pennies in. In regards to the poster asking why we are not making a stand, there is a group that was formed last year called the black scarf movement (named as black was the only colour Nike haven't used as a kit colour) and we had over 2000 people demonstrating before the Swansea game in December. It was all over the press, Sky sports etc even a German TV crew that got wind of us when Schalke beat us in the CL where there and the prices of tickets was one of the issues being raised. The core Arsenal support do stay away, all the pubs around Holloway road, Finsbury Park are rammed with Arsenal that simply refuse to pay these extortionate prices (especially seeing as our dear Stan from the US is hell bent on stripping us of our assets). It's a disgrace and in regards to paying high prices away, you should see what he had to pay at Chelsea and even QPR last year. I even paid well over £50 to see you lot earlier this season. These people are living in the clouds and its us mugs that have to take the brunt of it.
There are also other supporter clubs such AISA who have lobbeyed the board for close to 2 years to reduce ticket prices. These people just wont listen however. I applaud your stand to send back these tickets, it's a fucking disgrace.
As for the "Unfortunately a lot of their supporters seem to have lapped it up." You don't know many of us do you chap? If you think that we pray to the altar of this board, that Arsene and his constant whining about other clubs and how unfair it is that they have more money then we do (even though we spend so much on wages for players who we cant even sell on and who no longer play such as your Denilson's and Djourou's etc) is a mantra we all follow then you are as deluded as he is.
There is a massive divide between fans which are the ever diminishing Arsene Knows Brigade (lovingly referred to as the AKB's) and the other half who are sick to the back teeth of the constant lies that are spoon fed to us by the king of spin himself, Ivan Gazidis (a Man City fan by the way). There are people who only jumped on the bandwagon at Arsenal when football became really popular and Arsene FC was created. There are some who genuinely think that the club didn't exist before their deity arrived in '96. Anything that comes out of the mouths of their dear leader and board is the truth and all the talk about the evils of city (used to be Chelsea) is the only reason why we are now footballing also rans.
There are many, many of us who will support the team through thick and thin but will no longer put a penny into this club whilst the current regime exists.
It's got nothing to do with having an entitlement to win trophies, it's the constant lies and bullshit, the constant pining for this fantasy which is Financial Fair Play. It's a fucking joke. Unfortunately for us it wont be ending any time soon. Still for a shitty club with such horrible supporters like us I imagine you lot wont care which is fair enough as we didn't care when you were doing nowt.
Cheers for your comments skipper. That club that you used to go to back in those days is long gone. Unrecognizable to what we once were.
And whilst every club has their fair share of divs, there is no question that the manager's accolytes, the Post '96 crowd really are a bunch of clueless and very sanctimonious souls.
Stay Lucky mate (except this weekend of course).
