Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

More than the songs, Enola Gay and Made of Orleans helped to define the Casual Era. Brilliant tunes though.

Never really a big fan of 'electronic' music but OMD wrote songs with great melodies and hooks. In 1979 my brother came home with their very first single Electricity (first release, Factory records?) and I still remember it was in a hand made cardboard sleeve. Still is one of the best songs from that era, and pretty sure it was released a couple more times before it became a hit.

Another of their early hits was Messages, absolutely brilliant

Maybe it is my age but where is the next John Peel to champion new bands, instead of the usual dross of manufactured dirge

I don’t listen to it but from what I can gather Marc Riley on Radio 6 covers a lot of new bands, has them in sessions etc. It’s possible that Gideon Coe does too.

Not many songs better than this
Was number one in West Germany for weeks I believe

Was bloody confusing...... they had a two consecutive singles - one called Maid Of Orleans that name checked Joan Of Arc, and the other called Joan Of Arc that didn't name check Joan Of Arc.....
Both Maid of Orleans and Joan of Arc gets played together and often. Fantastic atmospheric music.

Messages is a great tune. It never ages.

Fantastic band, very underrated really.....their music is something i reach for when i need to chill and also as a pick me up.

A band that has depth and oozes quality, they have very much stood the test of time.

Depeche Mode another, their latest single is superb and a fantastic throwback to a better era.
Just quoted and replied for the Depeche Mode bit - couldn't agree more

Really liked them at the time. Don't listen to their stuff much these days but when I do I still enjoy it.
