Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark.

I bloody love the intro to Messages.

I wasn't a massive fan of electronic stuff either, was more into The Jam and The Specials. There will always be a place in my heart for OMD though.
Me too, The Jam head and shoulders above everyone for me, especially with Weller's output at the time. but also liked/saw The Beat, Specials, Madness, Undertones, Joe Jackson, Costello and some Clash.

OMD though consistently wrote some wonderful songs.

Yep, we are definitely on the same page here ;-)

I was born in 1964 and my best mate had an older sister born about 1961. In about 1978/9 she tried to get us to like the band Throbbing Gristle
Whilst that name was a bit risque for a Catholic girl it was the name of their record at the time that put me off...."United "
Fuck THAT I thought ;-)

I love their early stuff, but I think they lost their way a little in the mid 80s when they went a bit MOR, possibly to chase the American audience.
When Andy rebooted the band without Paul in the early 90s for Sugar Tax, I saw it as a return to form.
However, since Paul rejoined & they went back to a more electronic sound, I think they've released some absolutely fantastic material.

I did some work at the recording studio (motor museum? iirc) In Aigburth early noughties. The time of Atomic Kitten.
I was asked to go in at a weekend as one of the Kittens was doing some vocals. I was needed for technical stuff.
Anyway my cousin, working with me at the time, turned up as the most outrageously well dressed technician ever seen, smelling like an aftershave tsunami.
When we got there the Kitten had been cancelled, and Mcclusky took a real liking to my cousin.
Oh how I ripped him for so many years after that :D

It was the same studio Oasis wrote and recorded Supersonic in.

Dazzle Ships might have 'bombed' commercially compared to the previous albums but is their best album in my opinion, never seen them live to my eternal shame but will do next time they tour.

Some cracking tunes but I do struggle with most of their albums unlike similar bands of that period, Ultravox, for example. Might need to give them another try.
