Organ donation

Organ donation should be an 'opt out' system, not an 'opt-in'.

I've no time for anyone who wouldn't be willing to donate theirs or a family members organs to save another persons life.

I know it might sound strange but I don't want to be carved up even when I'm dead!
I don't do the religious thing at all but I still want to toast in one piece.

same tbh

In June 2003 I had a HEART transplant
Without the Op I would have been dead for seven years ,I would not have been able to celebrate seven birthdays with my grand daughters ,I would not have seen my grand son ,who is five ,and I would have not been able to watch my beloved City these past seven years .
I think about the donor everyday and write to the widow expressing my thanks .
I also think we should have an opt out system.
When you have witnessed a ten year old girl waiting for a lung transplant and then told they were not good enough ,( I was going to get the heart) ,we were both disappointed .
To see the lokk on the young girls parents faces will live with me .
So doubters please think about that .

I cannot believe how selfish that is. Its like passing someone in the desert who's dying of thirst and not giving them water, even though you have plenty spare. Would you walk past them and let them die?

If you die in suspicious circumstances, you ain't got no choice mate. Autopsy it is, so whilst they're there they may as well take some useful stuff from you.

They can take what they want from me when I'm gone. Take it all and save on the cremation costs if need be.

I won't feel the cuts, I won't miss the organs, and my family won't see me. Best thing I can hope for is that when I die, someone gets the chance to live. I donate blood platelets once a month, so think that if I can do anything to help someone, I will, whether dead or alive.

All good points and to be fair the experiences of others here on BM should be enough for everyone to sign up for the card. I'm debating with myself.

The system should be changed to an opt-out system, in all probability I and most people wouldn't make the effort to opt-out and clearly this would be in the interests of society at large.
My understanding of this system though is that objections could come from next of kin and as things stand next of kin can still go against the wishes of those who wish to donate??

-- Sat Oct 02, 2010 1:31 pm --

I understand what you are saying by your analogy is poor.

Well, I've just signed up and urge others to do likewise

Reading some of the stories on here puts it all into perspective, when you consider some of the threads on here of how people had to queue for five minutes to get into City Square, not really a big deal now is it...
