Organ donation

Organ donation should be an 'opt out' system, not an 'opt-in'.
I've no time for anyone who wouldn't be willing to donate theirs or a family members organs to save another persons life.

Agree 100%

So do I. I've had a donor card for years and all my family know that is what I want to happen.

I agree with organ donation, it's something I've meant to sort out for myself, but to call for organ donation to be an "opt-out" system, whilst I'm 100% sure is done so with the very best of intentions, is at best naive and at worst unethical.

An "opt-out" system means that you're saying to people that they don't actually own their own bodies. Ignoring for a moment the implications of that when it comes to property rights, it's completely ludicrous.

I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears ...but the question is whose ears?

Why do people so easily descend into using force against others?

I am registered. Wouldn't agree with an opt out system, its should be the person in questions decision completely.

Also just signed up to give blood.

Got my card through the post last week. The mrs and I both signed up after her brother died a few months ago. The valves in his heart went to 5 different people, including a seven year old girl. Seriously what good is your body to you when your dead?

Anyone who donates an organ is reducing human existence to nothing more than scientific calculation.

I suppose religion is the root of your ignorance?

I have to agree.
If it is an opt-out system, then who's going to stop people from killing just to get the organs? (a stupid question but i am sure it would happen).

Why would religion be involved here? It seems, all you guys do is blame religion for everything. That is more ignorant then religion.

Is it possible to own anything once you're dead? I mean, is it legally possible? I don't know.

It still would be the persons decision completely - they have the choice to opt out.

Im registered as an organ donar to but if the system was changed to an opt out system i would opt out. Simply because that kind of system is morally corrupt and wrong and i want no part of it. Also Blue_bird that is a disgusting response and a logically flawed reply if you think about it a bit more.

When do you opt out ? As a child when you dont fully understand things yet ? Do you opt out once you leave school and start uni and you've got a million and one things going on in your life ? What happens if you can't physically opt out and you're paralized in bed screaming in your mind please don't take my organs ? What if you were severly mentaly handicapped and just couldn't understand what opting out or in ment ?

It was a question and a fair one. Don't be so defensive. The very nature of his answer suggests that deep rooted beliefs are the bottom of his reasoning. That suggests religion.
