Otamendi

I also believe Kompany could be a shock departure,

His form over the last 18 months is poor, to terrible.

Well fucking congratulations you have won the award for the most rediclous comment posted on bluemoon forum this month!

What if Pellegrini thinks that Kompany is the problem?

I know it's almost unthinkable, he's the captain etc, but Mangala & Demi are Pellegrini defenders, I don't see him wanting to replace them. What if, after his bad form and worsening injuries, Pellegrini is bringing Otamendi in as competition for Vinny?

It's been clear as day that VK didn't suit Pellegrini's front foot, high line, jumping out to make tackles defensive system from very early on.

This would also resolve the Denayer thing in a way. Denayer & Mangala fight for the LCB position, Otamendi & Kompany the RCB slot, Demichelis is general cover in his last season before moving on.

Thoughts?

It could bring vinny back to his best like Caballero did to Hart. If Guardiola is actually happening, it would suit him too, because he's known to like playing with formations and playing 3 CBs, so the squad would be better suited to his arrival. Bayern have Badstuber, Martinez, Benatia and Boateng for CB options - all very good in their own right.

I'm not sure what the going price is for Otamendi, but it could be interesting.
Good post

Before a manager can get to thinking of tactics such as high line, he has to get the basics right first. By basics, I mean a dominant and commanding keeper, a back four whereby any one of them could comfortably accept the captains armband, and to throw a bit extra into this part of the team, these same players should be capable of playing like they were fed on raw meat all their lives. The remaining players should be where the flair and industry come from and obviously skill shortages, home grown and club trained quotas mean that this part of the squad is the expensive one, but for now I'm just concentrating on the defence because this is one area of recruitment that has been near ignored or at the very least, with Mangala, left until the very last minute. A club like City should be in a position to sort this end of the field out quickly in accordance with Pellegrini's urging for the window to be worked on from the start, and finished early to get each new man in fit and ready for the first game. So here we are now, just one major signing plus a squad player who is now out injured and with the big KO just two weeks off with some of our squad not yet back in training. When will we ever get this message across in a way that Txiki, Sorry and KAM get to understand it's importance?

Perhaps we cannot see what is in front of our faces. #together

I have fuck all idea what this post means but considering his signup date, his post count, and the talk this poster is getting in the Pogba thread I figured a bump was due.

So who's to blame for last seasons relatively poor defence? Our much maligned LBs? Yaya's penchant to getting forward without offering enough defensive input?
Fernando's post-Stoke form? MP(or the Master Planner's) gung-ho tactics? If you mention any of these points I guess I'd have to agree with you. The only area where I seem to differ with most posters on here is that I still won't exonerate the CBs as they have not been convincing all season. We make reference to the final 6 games last season where we were a lot better but we all know how it felt squandering two-goal leads against Swansea and Villa. The point I'm making is that our defence is not finished article yet. Add the fact that rival teams have the opportunity to improve their squads now, then you'd understand that the issue of how much we're spending should only be a secondary consideration. The only 'problem' I see with this potential transfer is what the media and rival fans would say but I'll tell you what, I couldn't care less about that. I know CB is one position that relies heavily on other units of the team and many-a-times CBs get skinned by opposition attackers because they were left exposed but we have also seen CBs bailing their teams when everyone else were not doing their jobs. An example of this, off the top of my head, is Koscielny for Arsenal. There were times when it seemed everyone else was sleeping, central midfielders, Monreal, Matersaker, etc but his presence at the back was more or less their lifeline and oh, how they missed him when he was out injured. Denayer should be eased into the starting 11 with time. Yes we all hope our captain fantastic is back to his best, others have been good but not great so this is an area we need to strenghten and my prefered way to getting this done is sending Mangala the other way, on loan so we can have him back when Demi is gone.
