Otamendi

I understand that centre back isn't a priority but is this not a two way opportunity not to be missed? he would improve us and it would also prevent the rags getting him, who, imo,he would significantly improve.

How would adding Otamendi, alongside Kompany and Mangala (assuming it's Demichelis that leaves) affect the development of the highly promising Denayer though? There needs to come a time where we look internally rather than looking to spend £30m on someone elses player. Denayer is the perfect opportunity to do this. Otamendi would, for me, really hamper Denayer's first team chances. Demichelis, given his age, knows he's not going to play week in week out, Otamendi would want far more regular playing time. I don't just see this as "not a priority", I'd go as far as to say I felt this signing would be detrimental to player development, and send entirely the wrong signal to the rest of our EDS players, which could have far reaching repercussions when it comes to us tying them down to lengthy deals.

Yep,its a serious consideration I agree,i think we must have given Jason certain assurances regarding playing time otherwise the deal may not have been signed or he would have already been earmarked for a loan.On reflection, your point probably edges it for me.

I don't think Kompany is a front foot defender. However, he's trying to play like one and that's what is causing his form to drop.

What if Pellegrini thinks that Kompany is the problem?

I know it's almost unthinkable, he's the captain etc, but Mangala & Demi are Pellegrini defenders, I don't see him wanting to replace them. What if, after his bad form and worsening injuries, Pellegrini is bringing Otamendi in as competition for Vinny?

It's been clear as day that VK didn't suit Pellegrini's front foot, high line, jumping out to make tackles defensive system from very early on.

This would also resolve the Denayer thing in a way. Denayer & Mangala fight for the LCB position, Otamendi & Kompany the RCB slot, Demichelis is general cover in his last season before moving on.

Thoughts?

It could bring vinny back to his best like Caballero did to Hart. If Guardiola is actually happening, it would suit him too, because he's known to like playing with formations and playing 3 CBs, so the squad would be better suited to his arrival. Bayern have Badstuber, Martinez, Benatia and Boateng for CB options - all very good in their own right.

I'm not sure what the going price is for Otamendi, but it could be interesting.

+ 1

It sounds logical im my ears...

What if Pellegrini doesn't think we have a problem & in fact have the best variety of cb options in the Premier League ?

If Pellegrini and Txiki think that, then they would be unlikely to be in for a CB. Personally I think they'd be wrong but it's not my decision to make.

I also believe Kompany could be a shock departure,

His form over the last 18 months is poor, to terrible.
