Having relocated to the south (bristol) in the last year I have been exposed to this numerous times.
The first barbers I went to was a spurs fan (he later explained he's a Bristol city fan but spurs is his "premier league" team). I walked in, with a city hat on, asked him how he was and his reply: "better than you if you're a city fan"
I watched the spurs game from last season in the local walk about. got asked why I support city by a guy next to me. I responded: "is that a trick question?" and he got a bit arsey. So I told him I was born and bred in manc to which he replied "no i meant whys one of your type supporting city" (i'm mixed race) it was only my level headed girlfriend who stopped the fat little hobbit from getting a bottle wrapped around his face.
at work I have two utd fans, a gunner, a spurs fan, a scouse fan, a swindon town fan, a chelsea fan, a leicester fan and a leeds fan. And of all of them, only me, the leeds fan and the MK Don's fan come from anywhere near our club. The only one who takes my side in any of the football arguments is funnily enough the leeds fan (and probably only because of our mutual hate for the scum). to the rest we are ruining football, making joke signings. even stranger most of it comes from the chelsea fan (from newport) rather than the utd fans.
anyway. ive yet to meet a city fan down here since I moved (although admitedly it was only the spurs game that I was down here for).
if you're from bristol, look me up.
