Other fans perceptions of us

I was doing a bit of extra work in Warrington today.
Working with 2 scousers (everton & liverpool fans)
The Everton fan asked who i supported…i responded that i’m a City fan, his response “you must be the only one”

Let that sink in, an Everton fan making a snide dig that Manchester City don’t have any fans!
An Everton fan!!!!!!
But this is repeated by fans all over the country - how did it get to this?

I think we were once quite widely liked. People empathised with loyal supporters who had lived in the rags‘ shadow for years.

Completely different now. We won the lottery and bought success. Whilst our football is reluctantly admired, nobody really likes flash rich boys.

The Super League fiasco and the fawning over Messi exemplify how far the club and many fans have moved from their roots.

Because when the rags had to take that banner down they had nothing left to taunt us with, this having no fans thing. Never heard it in the 80s,90s or 2000s. It seemed to get trotted out in the 2011-12 season, rag fans exist on making shit up. Apparently we get 20,000 a game, it’s like that bullshit they spout about having a youth team player in every team since the 1930s.

I agree about us being widely liked. But people only liked us because we were shit. I think it's just the case that nobody likes a successful side.

That depends partly on people’s assessment of whether success is “deserved”. Hence Leicester’s hugely popular League win in 2016, which disrupted the hierarchy.

A bit like when your ugly mates Hoover up all the mingers while you get stuck into the darlings. Then one of your ugly mates changes from an ugly duckling into a swan. He gets all the top flange and your with the pack fighting for munters again. Your gonna resent everything about him.
